Left-wing or socialist leaning comedians around the world?

Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions for left-wing comedians. Most of the people I know are getting up there in years and I'd like to find some new names.

Bonus points for people with more explicit socialist or anarchist orientations as well but I would like to be somewhat broad here while avoiding garden variety identity politics or liberalism as much as possible. Examples of some comedians who fit this description to varying degrees:

UK:

Rob Newman
Mark Steel
Mark Thomas
Stewart Lee
Alexei Sayle

US:

Lee Camp
Ted Alexandro
Judah Friedlander
David Cross
Nato Green

Italy: Ascanio Celestini

France: Guillaume Meurice

Germany:  Volker Pispers

Spain: Facu Diaz

As you can see, I am interested in other languages as well and look forward to seeing your suggestions.

Thanks!

Jack Evans was new to me (and also doesn't seem to have much material available). Do you happen to have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Sin Agog

I'm not sure I trust this guy and his sudden desire for us to name prominent left-wingers.  Sounds like Nixon's blacklist all over again.

That said, James Adomian.

Tim Heidecker

Not sure Tim really fits this bill, even if he did finally come around to supporting Sanders.

I assume that was meant to be a joke about a blacklist. Adomian is a DSA member and I wish his material were a bit more engaging in a political direction. Often he seems to coast with his facility with impressions etc. Any other suggestions?

Tim, like Rob Delaney is also a DSA member and while I appreciate both of them in some contexts, it's also true that they usually deal with political topics sporadically and more indirectly. I think they are both worth a mention either way in the US context.

He's a member of the DSA.

Eric Andre did a few phonebanking shifts for Bernie Sanders earlier this year as I recall.

Danny DeVito has been vocally supportive of both Sanders and Corbyn.

He's a member of the DSA.

He was also down on Sanders for many months and wavered over who to support in the Democratic primary. I'm going to baselessly give credit to undercover agent Vic Berger for finally converting him.

That makes sense, Vic Berger definitely feels more solid politically. Interesting that there's infinitely more bite to their Trump material than all the resistance Libs who make a point of hating him so much out together.

Not sure about socialists, but anyway.

Bill Burr is the furthest left a Bill Burr can be, and that'll do.

I'm not sure about Stewart Lee by the way. Certainly left of centre, but probably not socialist.

That's probably about right. I don't believe Lee has ever addressed his ideological commitments specifically head on but I think he's a good deal more left of center than many mentioned here.

My somewhat longer list of UK comedians I'd mention as being varying degrees of left:

Stewart Lee
Mark Thomas
Mark Steel
Richard Herring
Rob Newman
Bridget Christie
Josie Long
Russell Brand
Alexei Sayle
Frankie Boyle
Simon Munnery
Marcus Brigstocke
Paul Thorne
Robin Ince
Jeremy Hardy
Jo Brand
Nish Kumar
Chris Tavner
Tom Mayhew
Chris Coltrane
Chris Morris
Armando Iannucci

Again, some more than others and I'm not a fan of all of these.

For the US:

Lee Camp
Ted Alexandro
Judah Friedlander
Tim Heidecker
David Cross
Dave Anthony
Maria Bamford
Ron Placone
Barry Crimmins
Lewis Black
Bill Hicks
James Adomian
Hari Kondabolu
Eric Andre
Nato Green
Amer Zahr
Jimmy Dore
Rob Delaney

Chris Morris, where's the evidence?
Marcus and Nish, no strong evidence.
Brand, not really.

Herring, fuck no.
Iannucci, fuck no.

Does anyone know if Chris Coltrane is still going?
He had a leftie comedy night and podcast, that's all i know him for and the podcast stopped ages ago didn't it?

Do you worked for Spiked? Why do you want this information? Comedy Redwatch?

While I'm here, does anyone know the names of any teachers who voted remain?

Are you joking (very poorly)? I'm simply interested in the topic and looking for more comedy I might find interesting.  Feel free to skip right over this thread.

Coltrane isn't still going and has even taken down his material from YouTube.

As for the other comics, they have all referred to themselves as varying shades of left and it comes through in some of their material. Not to the degree of some of the others I cited initially but enough to merit a passing mention.

Is this for a project?

No, I mentioned right in the opening post that "most of the people I know [in this arena] are getting up there in years and I'd like to find some new names"

KennyMonster

If this is to get people with dangerous 'un-british' ideas rounded up and  sent to Cummings' gulag, can I please change my answer?

Iannucci and Herring are actually the ring leaders, I was just trying to protect them.

The others are just sheep.

Round up those two and everyone else will disappear.

I'm a very poor left-wing comedian.

You asked for comics who were left wing, not c*nts who like to think their are but are too devious or cowardly to actually put their money where their mouth is.

Has Morris every expressed any political leanings either way?

I've stated several times why I posed the question;  I'm looking for comedians I might find interesting.
