I don't mean to patronise but that is an impressive and unexpected reference from me ol' Mum there

Bottom is good

I'd love it if it turned out my mum was a lurker here. Fondly imagining painstakingly making our way through another family video call handicapped by her dementia and my weird Zoom shyness and she suddenly says 'Gregory Torso is a very good writer, isn't he, dear? Don't worry, your old mum's not about to GET IN GRAVE just yet! Did you ever find that episode of Eastenders where they eat the Gutbuster?'.

Whereas if I found out my dad was on here I'd be fucking mortified, not sure why. The same reason I ignored his Facebook friend request I suppose. I don't want the man to see me showboating and craving approval.

Dewt

My dad was post top-quality posts about Worzel Gummidge and then let himself down by complaining about the black kids in the modern version.

BeardFaceMan

The amount of Smythe's said in the episode and the amount in the credits are different, I think there's an extra Smythe in the credits, that always annoyed me. Stop getting your own program wrong!

Dewt

Why is my mother's favourite episode the sex episode

Small Man Big Horse

My Mum doesn't really have much time for comedy apart from Friends. Not sure why but she just loves those fuckers to pieces, but when I've tried to get her in to something even vaguely similar she's not enjoyed it at all.

Barry Admin

My mum loves Men Behaving Badly and Father Ted. Think thats about it, although she has Bridesmaids on DVD, but doesn't quite love it as much as I do.

Thursday

My parents introduced me to so much of my favourite comedy, and were pretty lenient when it came to what sort of content they allowed, even though I come from a Christian family. Always confuses the fuck out of me when you hear of people who weren't allowed to watch something as tame as like The Simpsons when they were kids. (Although now, I wouldn't allow a child to watch Simpsons, because they only show new episodes on telly and they're shit)

I've just remembered my mum got me into Peter Cook. Shouted up the stairs at me to slither down from my fetid teenage lair and watch a 90s repeat of 'Not Only...But Also'. I remember her laughing at 'Alf Ramsey's Sex Dungeon' when it went out in one of The Day Today Mininews trailers after an episode of Quantum Leap. She's definitely on here. Hiya, mum. Ignore my posts on the coronavirus sub-forum, I'm doing OK.

Unless there's a sudden surge in General Bullshit threads about carp fishing and the wavering fortunes of Charlton Athletic I think this place will probably still remain a foreign country to Pa capisco.

My mum sends me #FBPE memes lifted directly from twitter. Have never had the strength to ask if she's the one circulating them.

She likes the Young Ones though so that's something.

My mum was mad about Peter Cook and loved Partridge so much I didn't have the heart to tell her her impression of him wasn't great. She's no longer Withers but whenever there's new Partridge out I often wish she was here to enjoy it.  My dad - also dead, thanks for asking - was more of a Morecambe & Wise, Two Ronnies fan. I don't think they went anywhere near messageboards in the internet's early days and would probably give me a good talking to if they saw the crap I posted here.

Ted enjoys a ubiquity of adoration on the island that only Mrs Brown has come close to since. Every single person in my life, that I can think of, including the most unlikely aunts and uncles and primary school companions, loved Ted. Derry Girls would have managed it as well if it weren't full of young people, but Ted and Mrs Brown having older, Irish people in them means that older, Irish people can and WILL love them.

I don't share much comedy with my Mum. I remember watching a Sharp Intake Of Breath and A Fine Romance when I was younger and us both liking them. Citizen Smith too

I do remember she couldn't stand Shelley for some reason, and despised Stanley Unwin and his tiresome shtick.

DrGreggles

The only comedy I can remember my Mum ever watching was Russ Abbot's Madhouse.

Citizen Smith too
My Mum had me yelling "POWER TO THE PEOPLE" before I'd even watched that (I would not have enjoyed it at that age)

Chedney Honks

My mum and dad both love Morris, Partridge, Seinfeld, The Young Ones, UK and US Office, Arrested Development. Pretty excellent taste. I specifically remember my dad telling me to come and watch TDT and later KMKYWAP when first broadcast.

My mum's idea of comedy perfection is Miranda Hart falling over.

Gurke and Hare

I got a load of comedy love from my parents. My dad was a ridiculously early adopter for video, and I've still got a tape with an unlikely off air double bill of Monty Python - And Now For Something Completely Different[nb]Referred to on the tape label simply as "Monty Python Film"[/nb] and the 1979 FA Cup Final which I've kept mostly just because it's fun to have such an old recording. They had Hancock and Round The Horne LPs, and when I was 13ish I went with my mum to see Ben Elton on the Motorvation tour. Yeah, the set with all the oral sex stuff.

NoOffenceLynn

My mum has typical "mum humour".
But laughs out loud at Reeves and Mortimer's version of Stars for Eyes, particularly the George Michael Impression.

And likes a bit of Mulligan and O'Hare too.

The Mollusk

If my mum was on CaB she'd just spend all her time commenting on how great I am and how informed and funny my posts are. I should probably get her signed up to be honest.

madhair60

Hi mate your mum loves bottom alright. Being on the bottom of sex. With me. Wahey! Glad that's over with!

That's what she said  <honks comedy carhorn, self-immolates>

Dewt realises she's left a cup of tea in his PMs.

Brundle-Fly

In recent years my octogenarian parents enjoy Frasier,Cheers Not Going Out, Would I Lie To You? and the selected bits of Curb Your Enthusiasm I've shown them on YouTube that aren't too sweary or lewd.  Not too shabby.
They HATED Hold The Sunset The comedy drama where they are its direct demographic audience. Mind you, they always thought Last Of The Summer Wine was shit too.

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Not Going Out is good, solid family fare, jokes coming thick and fast. I expect Lee Mack reminds them of Eric Morecambe. They may also remember Abigail Cruttenden ( Jah Wobble Features' Missus in the show) from when she was a youngster on top Peter Tinniswood- scripted comedy series Mog,which they may also have been fans of.

Dewt

Found out today we share the same taste in porn too

kilgore

It's the 'Dewt's Mum' stuff, isn't it?

Dewt

Yeah, Dewt porn is a pretty popular genre

Mum mostly likes funny women - Joyce Grenfell, Victoria Wood, French and Saunders, Stephanie Cole (Waiting for God was her favourite sitcom), Judy Stench and, sadly, Miranda Hart, etc. She seems to think they have gentler humour, even though that's not particularly true.
She hates all bodily function type jokes (unless it's Miranda or Victoria Wood). Was appalled when I showed her a copy of the Viz I was reading once - sexist rubbish as far as she was concerned.
Another men behaving badly fan too,she was a bit put off by the 'laddishness' at first but quickly realised it was just Caroline Quentin, another of her favourites, laughing at all the idiotic men.
Doesn't like political humour. Doesn't like panel shows.

I cant imagine she posted here because when I ask her why she finds something funny she gets very defensive and says 'I just do!'

Imagine you found out Neil was your nan all along
