Roy Orbison's attempt at going disco is as horrible as you'd imagine. Actually it's worse: I can easily imagine that majestic falsetto doing something like Sylvester's (You Make Me Feel) Mighty Real. Roy Orbison and Moroder or Patrick Cowley: the combination you never knew you needed.

The reality is Warm Spot Hot, with troubling lyrics that make you question how Orbison ever reproduced given that he seems to be describing himself as having a smooth Ken Doll feature that heats up at the point of arousal. Perhaps his kids were the result of a cloud of spores. In any case it's horrible and I've been known to play it at chucking out time: https://youtu.be/3gd2Bqi-0CA

Roy's kids, hot, flame, spark? Too soon, dude

Strong look on the album cover though.

Why the marketing men need to stay out of music in one photo.

My dad knew a guy who only owned two records: that and the best of The Drifters.

Twonty Gostelow

An album of instrumentals.   Rundgren's record label declined to release it in 1976, suspecting he was taking the piss.

His disco version of the Star Trek theme was the first, preceding Walter Murphy's etc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPpVZoqaxp0

Someone called Rosebud did a whole Pink Floyd Goes disco, and not just the obvious ones,

Arguably the best thing Demis Roussos ever did:

This Italo disco medley of ABITW & Alan Parson's Project - Mammagamma from '82 is a lot better than it sounds and was a big Balearic track late 80's too.

Marleena Shaw went from excellent soulful jazz on The Spice of Life to excellent disco like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euFiR_tnJZ4

My favourite solo Ringo number from 1977.

Did any of the other Beatles have a dabble in disco? I know Lennon spent the second half of the seventies with the wain, but I'm not sure if Wings/McCartney or George tried to get their groove thing on...  I suppose 'Coming Up' has a bit of a dance feel to it.

Yeah, the Wings one has that vibe - bit of a Boz Scaggs feel to it. The Yoko track is a bit too rough around the edges of be "disco" for me, though. More of a post-punk atmos to it, more Gang of Four than Bee Gees, musically speaking. You wouldn't have thought it was played by some of the top session players of the time.

Was going to post Walking on Thin Ice here then saw it'd been posted. It's one of my favourite records and I'm not trying to be contrary when I say it's the best thing Lennon ever played on. His guitar playing on it is great, as is that keyboard riff be came up with.

Crabwalk

'Whatever Gets You Thru the Night' has a heavy disco influence too.

Sin Agog

The Kinks' attempt at aping Miss You is a bit better than you'd expect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUT9KQ-LuaU

You're quite right, probably pushing it a bit for the spirit of this thread.

It had never occurred to me that Another Brick has an obvious disco influence until I read about the history of the song a while ago. It made me like it a lot more.

I've dropped it early on in my disco DJ sets. It mixes very well with Hit Me With Your Rhythm Sticks.

I dunno, there was a lot of disco about that wasn't exactly polished: one of my favourite disco records, I'm a Man by Macho is very much of a piece with the Yoko track. More sulphate, less glitter: https://youtu.be/g89dY-Ja5RM. It's all in the bass line and percussion with the Yoko track but yeah, strip out the guitars and keys and it could be ESG. There's so much of a two way stream of inspiration between the funkier end of post punk and disco that it's very hard to distinguish:especially when you factor in Nile being just as into Roxy as Johnny.

Seedsy

Chart music podcasts favourite band, Shed Seven, with their subtle "disco down"

Which I think is a banger haha

If I go up to the disco,
I'll get down with some luck,
You don't get down off an elephant,
You just get down off a duck.

dissolute ocelot

Pete "Buzzcocks" Shelley's dancey gay-sex-themed 1981 solo single Homosapien, produced by Martin Rushent who also did Human League's Dare.

And more boringly, Queen's Another One Bites The Dust (are there really no brackets in that?).
