Maybe it's in our mutual interest.

Staying, we gain, at best:
1. a few NEC seats, but with STV, probably not enough to make a huge difference;
2. the right to choose parliamentary candidates at CLP level, from a panel approved by the central party;
3. the right to vote for a leader in, say, 5 years' time.

If the party machinery decides to abuse its right to choose a panel, say because any left winger is smeared as an antisemite, then 2. makes little difference.

If left wingers end up being chucked out so that they can't put forward a LW nomination and we are forced to choose between Jess Phillips and Stella Creasy, then 3. makes little difference.

It is quickly getting to the point that there is no mechanism left to fight for anything.

I don't think we've quite reached that point yet - though the more left members leave the sooner we reach that point. If we do reach that point, I'd say leaving would make sense then but not until then. As to what after that? A progressive party that goes for a few of the worst Labour MPs in the worst seats? Whatever it is it can't be a trad socialist alliance type fringe affair that fades into irrelevance. Needs to capture the young energy of corbyn's rise. And has to be tightly focused, no doubt while under attack

It'll be a trad socialist thing on the fringes.

Only viable alternative I can see is basically taking over the greens, and I feel like a lot of the people in charge in that party are probably as bad as the lib dems and new new labour, although possibly a bit more inept and with fewer connections.

If When I leave the party, I think I'm just going to try and turn my back on politics. I'm done.

This is what I'm doing. I'm gonna go fucking mental in the nut if I don't.

This. I will wait at least to vote in the NEC election in September, then take a rain check.

For me Corbyn was the first tangible chance that something akin to my political beliefs could gain actual ground, and if I hadn't supported him that would have been a failure on my part. Others have now come along and shat upon that hope.

I believe a lot of people may have already left the party and centrists had joined to replace them and vote for Starmer, which is why we're hearing that there is apparently still 580,000 or so members. The wiki entry is still giving the last official count as 580,000 from January this year, so who knows. The fact that a new figure hasn't been reported suggests the number has dropped (or they'd be crowing about it).

The only hope in all this is that a new generation were inspired by Corbyn even as they were being shat upon by this centrist scum. I hope they keep the memory of this time alive and build upon it.

Yep, that's how I'm feeling right now. I'm so sick of feeling anxious and spending my time feeling relieved reading tweets by people who agree with me and then sickened by tweets from people who I fucking loathe, calling us all 'cranks'. I don't want to be gaslighted and see really fucking decent people slurred whilst massive fucking cunts never get their comeuppance. I don't want to feel this impotent anger and disappointment and injustice. I lie in bed and think about politics, I get up and think about politics and all the fucking time in between I think about it and feel really fucking pissed off. There's never any good news! For me, they've won. We had our chance, cunts fucked us over and, for now, it's over. I'd prefer to take stock and then maybe see if I can direct my energy in to something more positive and proactive than this stinking fucking cesspit of a party.

ditto, except more nihilistic and I don't believe in the party full stop. The party is just a vehicle to a destination. This one has been stripped down and rebuilt as a Triumph Acclaim.

You have every right. Take a break for a bit. In the future something will crop up, maybe soon, maybe not so soon, but when it does you can get back in the mix, when and only when there's a chance to make a difference. Right now, there's no point stressing over it, because there's very little you can do. That said, do vote in the NEC elections.

This is nice, by the way:

Cheers. Yes, I'm trying to stay for that (and get everyone else I know who is on the verge of ripping up their cars to do the same).

I've read around this whole Panaroma and settlement business and my considered opinion after carefully weighing all the evidence is that it's a load of hairy bumcrack.

If I were Corbyn I'd release the legal advice and fuck the whip (metaphorically and literally).

That's a bit extreme, but worth it for the environmental benefits I guess.

What an absolutely extraordinary thing for a state-corporate journalist to so brazenly admit.

Yes, i suppose scrutinising the actual fucking government is technically part of the BBC's job, but come on, much more important to examine the party that might be a government at some point in the future!
