Reccomend me a laptop

In the market for new laptop as this one is literally falling apart (Lenovo ideapad).  Could be willing to spend upto and a bit over of a grand as long as it is future proof (They all appear a bit more pricey now to get something top notch - this laptop has lasted 7 years and if it wasn't for it physically falling apart it would can still handle most things).

Wondering if any one has any good reccomendations?

Edit:
Oh and my primary concerns are general day to day use Netflix etc.. i'm not looking to "game" on it as I have the ps4 but it would be nice if I could play somethings on it (champ manager and maybe some of those realtime strategy games).

Neil please gas this thread (sorry)

If you are committed to not getting an Apple product, I would recommend the MS Surface laptops. I prefer the ones with the removable keyboard as it allows me to use it as a tablet if I need to, without all of the issues of tablets generally being shite.

Having used it for Zoom over the past few months, I can also attest to the quality of the video and audio which is much better than anyone else I have communicated with (based on their comments I should add).

I love them and would be surprised if I changed my mind.

My general thought process is:

If you like Apple stuff: Any MacBook that is either before the butterfly keyboards (2015ish) or after them (2020).  I have a 2017, trust me they keyboard is dreadful, been replaced, now has a keyboard condom... but still otherwise favour Apple.

If you don't: A few years old Thinkpad e.g. T470

I bought my last one from https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ in 2013 and am thinking about another purchase in the near future (in addition to the existing one which is still absolutely fine, I might just need another).

The build quality isn't quite what you'd get from an OEM (although I went with one of their base models so might be better up the product range). I'm looking at one at a rough cost of £700-800 which would cost closer to £2k on the high street, and that's if you can even get one at PC World etc that fulfils the specific criteria I have (Core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, no fancy graphics card).

Also, they don't come with a load of fucking bloatware as well.

I could also do with a recommendation, although for something cheap and cheerful.
My other half needs something she can do some basic photo editing on (cropping and resizing) and do zoom sessions with decent picture and sound quality. Other than that, she would only really use it for browsing and email. Needs to be reliable though. Hoping to spend as little as possible really. Ideally under £200 and with a warranty. Refurbished is fine.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Championship manager?

I hardly knew 'er.

I would like some help buying a new laptop, but am discouraged from using this thread seeing as no one helped NattyDread2.

Ideally a 15" screen, 6GB of RAM, and a graphics card that will run some city builder games, apparently the minimum is GTX 660 / R7 370 - 3 GB Video Memory.

Can that be done for under £400?

I just upgraded from a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 to a Legion 5 (AMD version). It cost a grand, which is 4x more than I had ever spent on a computer before because I have, until now, always bought such older models of ThinkPads - since they were always good value powerful machines second hand.

I feel right at home with its design aesthetic and it does everything I need it to do, quickly, and with no complaints. That nice feeling of things being slightly more responsive across the board. I missed the TrackPoint at first but then I discovered the powers of modern touchpads. And there was much rejoicing.

On that point, what happened to manuals? There is nothing to indicate to you what the full capacities of the touchpad are, even though they are manifold and not entirely intuitive.

The processor is making mincemeat of software demands that used to make the T430 groan. I used to feel guilty for being a messy computer user, Mr. Million Tabs, but now I feel like the technology has caught up with actual behaviour, and I can stop fretting about ever needing to shut a tab or - seemingly - ever to restart the computer at all. The machine feels very contemporary, in this sense.

The keyboard feels like an improvement in quality on the T430, "clackier" - and therefore a return to the golden age of the old ThinkPad keyboard. At first I thought the enter key was too small but I'm getting better and better with touchtyping it. Because I love typing I am overjoyed with the quality of the keyboard and the clever decisions made with the F-row and function keys on top of them.

God damned edit glitch!

And god damned colour backlight keyboards!!

Can I throw in a request for a cheap PC recommendation? The one I have now is a small Fujitsu that cost around €500 five years ago. It makes no noise and has no CD drive or anything.

I just need something that costs around €500 and can let me watch youtube and download films so pretty basic. Oh a 200gb USB flash drive recommendation would be appreciated too.

I have a Dell XPS 15 which was quite expensive (?) but has so far been great.

Background: I live in Germany, but - as seems inevitable these days - research computers from mostly American sources. Twice now I've bought something with LED lighting as reviewed: a mechanical keyboard (Roccat) and now this Legion 5. Both times they were reviewed as sporting complicated "4-zone" RGB LED in the American version, yet arrived with boring old JB/JW LEDs[nb]"just blue" or "just white"[/nb]

I feel slightly short-changed, since it would have been a fun option even if I rarely used it. On the other hand the effect is more tasteful with both bits of gear as they stand.

On the point about feeling the need to close browser tabs to keep things running smoothly, the Great Suspender extension for Chrome is good at handling that by keeping tabs there but pausing the ones which haven't been looked at recently.

I bought a lenovo x260 off ebay recently. 8gb ram, i5, full HD screen, 250gb ssd and decent battery life as it has both internal and external cells, £180.

That's a good deal. My T440p (and X230) are fine for me just now, but if I ever need a replacement I'd go for something like that.

I upgraded from a used x230! It served me well but was falling to pieces after several years of abuse.

Why would someone ever not use a Lenovo product, compared with the competition? I don't really get it.

I got great use out of me 15" Lenovo G500 until it finally conked out. Now I've got meself a 14" Acer Aspire 5, really nice full HD screen and that. But yeah, I was extremely fond of that Lenovo.

Twinsies!! Pretty good unit except for one massive problem, the wifi card was crap and the BIOS had a white-list that stopped you sticking in a better one.

Yay, snap! Screen was a bit dark so I always had to whack the brightness up full but you know what, same thing with me new laptop!
