Can anyone here who's got the game try out this Edinburgh scenery pack and see if they can get it working. Doesn't seem to work for me at all.

Someone has done an accurate model of the Matterhorn and the surrounding area. It looks incredible. You can get it here http://www.allflightmods.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2020/matterhorn-mountain-switzerland-scenery/

Makes such a huge difference. I can't wait until more mountains are done like this.

poo

Gonna run out of fuel here unless I find an airstrip soon

Not working for me either.

El Unicornio, mang

Matterhorn mod looks terrific. I think I've spent more time looking at pics/watching other people's vids than I have playing the game but hoping to get playing it again soon.

Also this thread is nice and all but I have the Rainbow theme in my head pretty much all the time because of it.

There's tons of amazing scenery now being custom made for this. It all comes at a hefty price in disc space though. The Matterhorn alone is just over 500MB. You can see why its much better streaming the data.

Recorded a short film of me flying round the Matterhorn, including me mucking about with some of the weather effects.

Explored a few planes but sticking with the Cessna 152 until I've got a good grip on it. Easy to spawn and dick about with planes in the air (not saying you are!!) but I actually want to learn how to fly them properly - presumably you need to consult the actual flight manuals of the respective aircraft in order to know landing/takeoff speeds and configuration for cruise/stable flight etc? Then there's all the new instruments to get your head around. It's all big clear dials in the 152 - dunno what's going on with the glass cockpits in the newer aircraft  -not without training anyway.

Reached Ruby, Alaska: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ruby,+AK+99768,+USA/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x56d4d7286662d8c9:0x75e2c46473936bbf?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiun77f1NvrAhWJecAKHcKnCNQQ8gEwFXoECBoQBA

It's the only place I've found so far with an airstrip (shown on Google Maps) that isn't shown in the game. It was getting late so I tried to put it down on a logging road instead, but my landing gear collapsed on touchdown.

Why do people seem to keep the engine noise up so loud when they play. The drone is the one thing I'm finding annoying about watching Flight Sim vids

poo

Also lots seem to keep it at full throttle the entire time. Learn to cruise u cuntz!

The glass cockpits mainly have the information that you have in the HUD when flying the plane in the exterior view. The second glass display is for navigational stuff. Its the navigational stuff I'm more keen to learn to use realistically. I can take off and land planes no problem. In time I'll start turning off more of the AI assists. I'm quite happy just mucking about in it at the moment. There's a big enough learning curve just finding what all the controls are mapped to on the keyboard and whatever other control set up you're using.

As far as the engine noise goes its just part of the immersion. It seems realistic to me. I've been in planes of various sizes and they're always pretty noisy. If you're using a throttle control hotas it feels great on the runway slamming it into full throttle to take off.

Just had a totally surreal multiplayer experience. My brother is a real world airline pilot for Virgin. Virgin aren't flying passengers anywhere at the moment but to help keep them running the government has given them a big freight contract. This evening my brother flying from Heathrow to Hong Kong to bring back tons of air fright from there. He texted me to tell me he was currently getting ready for push back and get onto the taxi way so I fired up the game and started flying over Heathrow with live air traffic on and there he was. VIR206 on the tarmac below.

Some footage of it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9UU4bl54eM

Fuck I really need to move on from my SNES controller - impossible to keep some planes level with it.

Knowing now how tricky it is just to keep a basic propeller plane in stable flight, the level of skill required to execute something like this makes my brain bleed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT7qrYi8R_M

Uncle TechTip

Get yourself a stick, still plenty on ebay if you don't mind second hand. Search speedlink for cheapest. The buttons on the stick were mapped to trim so keeping level was easy.

I totally recommend forking out for the Thurstmaster joystick and throttle hotas I got. £160 but totally worth it. The throttle control makes a bigger difference than you might think. Once you get accustomed
to what buttons do what its just a joy to use. The biggest difference it makes is that there's a dial on the side of it thats set up out of the box to work the horizontal and vertical trim. It does take your game immersion and
enjoyment up a notch.
