Cheers chaps. Yeah I'll take a video and upload it once its finished. Maybe even tomorrow.

El Unicornio, mang

Stunning work mobias, well worth the time and effort. I found a couple of ones made of my local area on here http://www.allflightmods.com/category/microsoft-flight-simulator-2020/msfs2020-scenery/ but they don't really seem that much better than the ones in game.

christ that's some good work! really glad to see that's a possibility now.
what's the program you use, going to have to show my mate who unlike me has the guts to keep that hard drive hogging behemoth on his laptop.

What's the deal with it if you ever wanted to share your updated scenery for example? would it be some pack you could upload or share somewhere (all 3 gb?!) or is it really just something people have to do themselves?

mobias

Cheers folks. Got Edinburgh finished today. Bit of a labour of love and now I know what I'm doing I would have done it differently. Its quite an arduous process. Like some IT stuff on the surface it almost seems quite simple but get into the details and it becomes a lot more complicated.

I used this guys tutorials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K0XhAf0WYw It does just cover the basics though and there's a lot you've go to work out yourself. THE SDK hasn't been out long so there's not  a lot of info out there.

The Edinburgh scenery is available to download here https://flightsim.to/file/3873/edinburgh-scotland

Some footage here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzafoNVWLrY&t=131s Excuse the lousy FPS. My PC barely manages recording and rendering the game at the same time. My new graphics card can't come soon enough.

Blinder Data

Its a huge chink of data though.

Racist.

That does look amazing though! Well done! You racist.

Awesome.

I wonder what the long term solution is to get the quality rendering and accurate features while also getting performance and storage under control... mapping the whole world with that data drain just for 1 city won't be possible for most people.

Bing maps getting much more photo telemetry data would make a difference as far the cities are concerned. The data the sim uses comes from Bing and currently it doesn't have nearly as many cities covered by photo telemetry data as Google Earth does. For doing Edinburgh I used a small program some clever sod has written that rips the data from Google, compiles it and renders it in the sim. Once Bing gets photo telemetry data of more UK cities, including Edinburgh of course, then my scenery will be redundant.

Zetetic

And then presumably you stream the data as required, as is the case now.

I vaguely imagine that GAN-based compression (for both models and textures) could work really well for some of this:
- 1) The general appearance of many buildings are very similar in principles to other buildings'.
- 2) Loss of information is extremely acceptable. Most buildings don't have to look exactly as the do in real-life, particularly from half-a-mile-away...
- 3) Progressive rendering seems a significant requirement, and I guess GAN-based compression could cope fairly well with changing density of input?

Check out the trailer for the free US based DLC which has just been released for it. Looks amazing.

"Update", really, I guess, rather than DLC.

Will they make a Twin Towers toggle, or are they traitors?

Goosebumps, probably the fact im in a really chilly room and the video had rousing background music. If that had been the first reveal of this game everyone would have SHIT BRICKS

Been having some 'fun' (and I use that term loosely) creating more scenery for FS. Now that I'm getting to grips with it and learning more about the SDK its becoming slightly more easy. The main issue I have is that my PC is really struggling. It took it about an hour to compile all the files for my scenery of Glasgow, the biggest scenery I've had a go at to date and stick them in the sim. My new graphics card can't come soon enough.

I've done my own version of the Forth bridges and the small towns of North and South Queensferry at either end of them. The bridges have full night lighting effects. You really haven't lived until you've spent all day covering a digital mock up of the Forth rail bridge in little floodlights so it lights up at night.

I've also done my home town of StAndrews including all the golf courses

Here's Glasgow.

If you've got FS2020 and want to download them they're here....

Lovely Glesga pics

Crash land in Eaglesham, and then try to convince the locals you're there for peace talks.

If this comes out on the Xbox Series X, they're not going to let you do stuff like this, are they? (These homebrewed upscales, I mean - not pretending to be Rudolf Hess)

Neomod

Coming to Xbox Series X|S Summer 2021.

It all went very quiet on the Xbox One release date front so I'm guessing they've realised the console's just not powerful enough.

I think its more the fact they've realised they've got make more of a 'game' out of it rather than focus on it being a sim for the console crowd. Plus, its a lot more stable on PC than it used to be but its
still a bit of work in progress as far a certain issues are concerned. I would imagine any console port of it would be a bit of a headache for them.

Beagle 2

Its disappointing, but I knew full well they were going to can the idea of it coming to Xbox One.

That's me buying a next-gen console then, it's all I care about outside of what I can get on Game Pass. Getting my mate to fly places as I watch him on a choppy discord stream isn't really the same.

Fucking hell

Impressive

VR is out for his now so I've just ordered up an Oculus Quest headset. Sounds like the Quest is a bit of nightmare to get working with it but the headset that the sim is optimised for , the new HP Reverb G2 is way more expensive and almost impossible to get hold of. I didn't want to spend tons on a VR headset incase I don't end up taking to it.

El Unicornio, mang

I was already considering getting one, that might have just sealed the deal. Can actually get the Google cardboard working with titles like Half Life Alyx but would like the more luxurious experience. Replacement for holidays I won't be going on in 2021.

Yeah I've been definitely using that as my excuse for financially indulging in a few technological investments recently. Pretty much everyone who plays flight simulator in VR says its so immersive there's really no going back to playing on a regular screen once you try it. Plus there's a F15 Eagle coming to FS in January. Doing 750 knots a low level in that in VR sounds amazing.

mobias

Never ceases to amaze me flight sim. I've got family up in a small town called Comrie up in Perthshire just west of Crieff. They had a little dump of snow over night and this morning. I took a flight over it this afternoon.

mobias

Just had the most incredible flight I've ever had in the sim flying in and out of a thunderstorm over the Swiss Alps during sunset.

Video of it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG35teSrb-c&t=231s
