I first heard about Gordon Parks because of an article about him in The Observer and there's just something I love so much about this photo. Something so so sad but beautiful too.

I recommend having a look at the work of Petros Kotzabasis. Another photographer out capturing real life scenes, with an amazing eye for detail and composition. Here's one example of his work:

Your dad, when he takes dirty pictures of your mum.

I've always thought that French photographer Raymond Depardon's pictures of Glasgow in 1980 contain a certain bleak beauty.
They also capture the last vestiges of the 'No Mean City' era.

I like how the sign almost seems to be conveying a cryptic message.

This one was taken opposite The Squirrel bar in the Calton.

Those street maps take me back. Either Brighton or Littlehampton had one and you turned the wheels to see more map/places of interest[nb]I think. It's a vague memory[/nb].

+1 from me, and that particular photo looks like something from a Hieronymus Bosch painting. I've got his book Genesis, and it's full of incredible images like this:

I also like Sally Mann and good old Ansel Adams.

[Edited to fix stupid typo]

My first thought was publicity still from a Cecil B. DeMille film.

Edit: Fuck, it was taken in 1986!

I never cared that much for Ansel Adams (too clinical), but one time I was wandering around a little commercial gallery in Santa Fe and came face to face with an original Moonrise Over Hernandez print. Stunning to see it in person.
