Also many Joy Division ones as well:

Sound Of Music
New Dawn Fades
She's Lost Control
Isolation
The Only Mistake
Glass
Atrocity Exhibition

Plus a few others in their live versions without atmospheric synth intros.

Must add Disorder to that list...

I love the drum intro to this Altin Gun tune, though this live version is so much better than the album.

Jockice

Teenage Kicks and Here Comes The Summer by The Undertones. Of course.

Prince and Linn drum machines have been mentioned in separate posts, but put the two together and baby, you've got a stew going:

Yeah, man! Let's Pretend We're Married is possibly the nes plus ultra of Linn drum only intros.

Incidentally, it's nuts how much Gary Numan was a direct influence on Prince circa Controversy/1999. 'Automatic' is basically wait for it wait for it...Randy Numan.

Johnboy

the eleventh untitled song from Green by R.E.M.

Warning Sign by Talking Heads

YAAAASSS!

Since that Chris Frantz book I can't not picture every musician in the room seething at Evil David Byrne, who is curling out a tod and writing a note addressing it to one of the studio cleaners, saying "THEY'LL TAKE CARE OF IT....WHY NOT?" in that declamatory nervous voice of his we all know and love.

That Blondie Heart of Glass intro someone mentioned above seconded.

To add. Short and to the point.

Madness House of Fun

Grey Day would be the Madness choice. I used to pull the needle back and listen to that over and over trying to pick out each hit.

LCD Soundsystem.

They are experts at this game. Get Innocuous being a great example. And the intro rhythm to Dance Yrself Clean is so hypnotic that by the time the beat proper finally drops it's like a bomb going off.

I heard the Soulwax remix before the original, so that version remains my favourite by association. There used to be a video on YouTube of a Fashion Week catwalk show which used that remix as the opening track (think I've posted it here before, as I liked the whole soundtrack to the show, but can't be arsed to dredge through my post history) anyway it just sounded really cool as all the models walked out at the start.

(Although tbf The Wurzels would probably sound sexy if they were soundtracking lots of beautiful lithe people strutting about in haute couture.)

TheMonk

Lust For Life- Iggy Pop
Honky Tonk Women- Stones
My Sharona - Knack
Rosanna- Toto
Africa- Toto
Billy Jean - that bloody pedo
50 Ways To Leave Your Lover- Paul Simon
Watching The Detectives- Elvis
Lowdown- Scaggs
D'yer Maker- Zep
Land Of Confusion and a load of other Collins/ Genesis tunes
Brick House- Comodores
Young Americans- Bowie

Sebastian Cobb

I forgot Showing Out (get fresh at the weekend) has an alright drum intro, I was going to say it was an 808 but I think they drop its cowbell in over the top of their beloved lindrumm.

Elvis - (I don't want to go to) Chelsea

Always makes me think of this - perhaps one for the "Songs you think are other songs" thread:

Also, two short but very effective intros to two consecutive tunes off of Low:

Bands with two drummers alert:

Antmusic

Dog Eat Dog

Container Drivers

Rock & Roll Part 2 (contains minimal paedo, and he doesn't even get the royalties any more)

And while I remember it:

Schizophrenia

Nobody Soup

It doesn't really count but I'm still mentioning it because it's amazing, it's dave grohl absolutely beating the living shit out of the kit on smells like teen spirit that makes that intro work.

Bush - Sat In Your Lap
Talk Talk - Happiness Is Easy
Bark Psychosis - Shapeshifting

(Latter two both Lee Harris)

edit: link to single track rather than entire album

Bit of a tangent rather than a contribution, but it's just occurred to me that Fuck Buttons sampled the Kate Bush one: https://youtu.be/lXXVPlrY974

Definitely Hot For Teacher, with its spluttering motorcycle exhaust double-kick intro:

which was based on this Billy Cobham track, technically a drum intro of a tom-tom tuned right up:

I'd go with Eat Yself Fitter too, both drummers clodhopping and stumbling down Whitworth St:

I forgot 'Born Under Punches' by Talking Heads.

Winner of thread.

Watching this threw up a Nicko McBrain video in my recommendations where he mentions he nicked some stuff from Billy Cobham. How can we talk drum intros without this, which also introduced Nicko to his new band's fanbase, side 1 track 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGqbJiq675s
