My speakers are crackling even though the amp is switched off.

I've never noticed them do this before, but they just had a wee crackle for about 30 seconds. What the heck is that all about? The mains power is switched on but the amp isn't. I'm guessing that probably doesn't matter? Just wondering if it's the usual issue of a potentially loose connection, etc.?

They shouldn't crackle if the power is on.

Maybe your amp has a soft power switch? If so definitely check the speaker and power connection to the amp.

Do the speaker wires run close to any other wires? I've had speakers in the past pick up interference from induction in the wires even though the amp was off.

I've had speakers (or rather the wires) pick up nearby two-way radio systems.
