Anyone signing up for the vaccine trial?

I'm tempted - If for no other reason it'll be interesting to see if it's effective and basically do a little good in the world. Plus it'd be a nice middle finger up to the anti-vax crowd when I can tell them I've had no ill-effects, nor is Bill Gates spying on me.

Anyone else considering it?

You're representing  cab on this krypton - go get 'em!

Done - Signed up. If I die then it's for a good cause and if I live then I'll be immune for a bit. Plus I'll have Bill Gates's keeping an eye on me.

Bazooka

The bit where your head swells to the size of Frank Sidebottom's, is only agony for the first three days.

Already on it mate, not had That Covid either so from this I assume it works perfectly.

Had a phone call (well I didn't) with an automatically registered number on my mobile, asked them to ring me back inf (5-10 minutes), the lady said she'd ring back. She didn't.
Later got an email with a fair amount of the obvious questions. Clicked them relevantly, now we await the belly of the beast.

Signed up earlier. Feel like most of my answers to the preliminary questions were pretty vanilla (except for the ethnicity one, possibly) and they've probably already had loads of similar applicants, so we'll see.

Although I do realise this isn't an IPSOS market research questionnaire (and as such, I'm unlikely to get a free Amazon voucher once I complete 5000 doses of vaccine).

How will you know it's effective if you still have to take part in all the social distancing measures? What if it's one, not the other? Not that it's a reason not to, but it will take a long time to be certain.

Chedney Honks

They should inject them with corono the week after and see what happens.

I'd like to but

QuoteYou may need to do some things at home, like take a throat and nose swab every week, or keep a diary.

Ugh. Can't someone else do it?

Yeah, I wondered this too. I assume antibody testing, and/or they escort you down your local when you leave the clinic.

Maybe they'll monitor people like with the travel quarantine, except this time you get slapped with a £10,000 fine if they don't see you gallivanting about and getting huffed on by randoms.

That's just statistics. You just have to trial enough people.

Blue Jam

Just done it. Answered the "Have you been diagnosed with moderate or severe asthma?" question with "Not sure" though because I haven't been able to visit a GP in person and get a proper diagnosis and was just prescribed an inhaler as a precaution.

Whatevs, I had the MMR as an adult in 2010 and I'm fine. I think.

Got an NHS email today announcing trials for the Novavax effort are starting soon - followed the link to their website, started survey to see if I'm eligible, survey doesn't work. Looking good so far!!!

(I'm being unfair, I'll try again later - would be interested to know if anyone's had the same and managed to get in, though)

I had the same issue around 5pm. Will give it another go tomorrow.

Icehaven

I did months ago but because I was working from home and they were understandably prioritising people still going to work, nothing came of it. I'm half back at work now so I should look back into it.

FWIW, it worked for me today, no issues.

flotemysost

Yep, me too - have been told I should be contacted for an appointment within a few days.

I'm supposed to be moving in a few weeks, so I don't know if that'll mess things up - I mean I'm not moving very far, so I could still get to the nominated hospital, but it's a different borough so dunno if that screws with their stats or anything.

flotemysost

Had another email yesterday (I think) saying that there was a slight delay but I should be contacted soon to be offered an appointment.

No idea how much say we get in when they'll be, but now I'm thinking I'd selfishly quite like it to not coincide with moving flat in a few weeks, just in case I have some sort of after effect that impairs my ability to carry heavy boxes.

On the plus side, if I die then someone else will have to carry me in a heavy box and I can just put my feet up.

Just bumping this thread (rather than the main vaccine one, as obviously things have moved on somewhat since the last updates here).

Still not heard a sausage re: Novavax trials, but had an email this week about another trial, this time for the Janssen effort. Link in the email also not working yet for this one either. Realistically I expect there'll be various trials well into next year at least so it's anyone's guess if/when I might get called, but I was getting all excited.

Have any CaBbers actually been and got pumped full of a mysterious fluid, or indeed partaken in a vaccine trial, and care to share? (Apologies if covered in the other thread but it's quite big now.)
