APPG calls for "zero covid" approach and has some other ideas

The All Party Political Group on Covid has called for a  "Zero Covid" approach where social distancing is maintained until Covid is eradicated - which I presume means until there is a vaccine?

QuoteThey have also recommended a target to reduce the number of new cases seen in England over a seven day rolling average to no more than one new case per million population per day and accelerating the development of a "locally lead and locally coordinated, but nationally supported" Find, Test, Trace, Isolate and Support (FTTIS) programme in England.

These both seem good ideas to me - locally lead Track and Trace seems more sensible than the shambolic excuse we have so far.

QuoteThe group also suggests devolving public health outbreak control efforts in responding to local flair-ups, as well as reinstating daily coronavirus briefings – which were ended in June...

Bringing back daily coronavirus briefing is an excellent idea but Johnson won't do it, because he wants people to forget about the virus and go and spend money.

I do wonder if one thing that could be considered would be to help charities run socially distanced outdoor charity booksales - raising money for charity, it's safer than browsing charity shops and it gives people more to do when they are at home. Perhaps socially distanced outdoor shopping when the weather is good could help the economy while reducing the risk of people getting the virus from going into shops. Not sure how easy setting up card machines would be though.

What would really help is a socialist strategy with UBI and an extension of the furlough programme until Covid is eradicated, but that goes against the capitalist ideology of the Tory party. Ironic that they are happy to subsidise indoor meals during a pandemic though.

QuoteThe All-Party Parliamentary Group is calling for evidence to be submitted to inform its recommendations to the UK Government. All evidence received will be reviewed and submissions of particular interest may be followed up with an invitation to submit oral evidence.

That's basically what they did in Hubei province and it's gone.
