Hundreds of fans have attended a special kind of musical happening at a church in Germany: a chord change in an organ piece that is supposed to last for an entirety of 639 years.

The performance of the Organ/ASLSP (As Slow As Possible) composition began in September 2001 at the St Burchardi church in the eastern town of Halberstadt and is supposed to end in 2640 — if all goes well

Don't worry if you missed it though, it's only 18 months until the next chord change. This must be the fast bit.

This stirred the memory of Longplayer, the composition designed to last a thousand years, which I used to have on round the house all the time when I lived on my own. Last time I checked, about 5 years ago, the site must have been down for maintenance, but I assumed it was done forever and thought no more of it. Checked again this morning and it's still going strong, so that's nice.
