I'd suggest getting one with strings.

You mean keep the shitty strings on that they ship the guitar with?

kngen

My old bandmate boiled his bass strings to freshen them up, like an old grandad cleaning his socks.

I found this tip on youtube which genuinely works (on roundwound strings):

I've been learning for a couple of months and really enjoying it (on a Hofner Ignition Cavern bass, due to McCartney worship) but this week I've had frustrating pain from a trapped ulnar nerve. I'm guessing this is from poor posture and most likely resting my wrist on the edge rather than letting it hang loose - has anyone had this, and know how long it might take to resolve? I'm keen to get back to practicing soon, it's been a real outlet.

Well I kept the stock strings on, adjusted the truss rod and raised one of the saddles on the bridge a bit, everything at the nut seemed fine, that made things better. There's still a little bit of buzz but I'm worried about how far I can turn the truss rod before breaking it so I'll probably leave it, I usually play with headphones on anyway. Raised the pickups a bit and that helped with the volume too so it's usable for recording now at least. Thanks for all the help guys.

Now to try and fix my fucking guitar.

Quarter turns is the way to go with the truss rod (then leave to settle for a day or two). I think you're fairly safe, as you should be loosening it (anticlockwise) to reduce fret buzz.

You mentioned buying tools. You should have got two allen keys with the guitar from Thomann (well, I did); one for the saddle, one for the truss rod.

A bit of buzz is ok, if you can fine-tune it:

Ah ok. I probably adjusted it just over a quarter turn, it was just the guy in the vid I watched mentioned overturning it without mentioning how far was overturning it, he did it a bit less than a quarter turn by the looks of it. I might try it again later then, see if I can improve it a bit more. I was pushing it forward to try and raise the strings, the guitar did come with the Allen keys but I needed to get a feeler gauge.

Huh, crazy. I guess it's just dirt getting in the cracks between the wind rather than any oxidisation then? Who fucking knew?
