Twitter Control

Is there a thing such as Twitter but you can control what you see?

All I want to see are Tweets by about five accounts. I don't want to have the option to see what's trending or any of Twitter's stories.

Some sort of extension or app (doesn't have to be free) that strips away options as though they were modules.

I don't want to give up the tiny small amount of elements of Twitter that I enjoy but I've realised today (on my tenth anniversary, though it's not related) that Twitter is damaging me, quite massively.

I have found this exact thing and more bizarrely am already logged into it, so evidently I've lived this crisis before. See ya folks!

I found twitter an absolute shitefest of suggested posts and whatnot on the home page when all I actually wanted to see was stuff from a handful of accounts. I've since returned with an account where I follow no other accounts, but add the ones I'm interested in to "lists". These only show posts from the accounts in the list. It'd be even better if there were a way to hide retweets on the lists and only show completely original posts. I've got separate ones for politics, comedy, arts, and various other things, and I can dip into them quickly if I fancy it without being swamped by the suggested posts.

Not sure if this is true of lists, but on your news feed you can hide retweets of individual accounts, it's an option on their profile page. If you're only following a handful of accounts then it would be easy to do manually.

Semi-related, what do the people who retweet all their praise think they are gaining from it? Even the odd single retweet of praise is a bit cringing and self-congratulatory IMO, but loads of accounts retweet all the praise they get in big batches, and I just don't understand how they can believe this does anything other than annoy their followers.

I've no longer got the mute retweet button (or the i don't want to see this) options now but I know other people have.

Muting doesn't work in lists or searches, and scripts aren't an option really as I'd want to see the same on desktop and via the app.

It's fine. Retweets are easy enough to skip over when reading, and I can banish accounts from my lists if they post in a way which annoys me.
