Slightly baffled why employers would sign up to this, and why the government think this is a solution. Continuing furlough would have been  more logical given that many of the jobs that have qualified for furlough would be needed once we have a vaccine.

Dodds shouldn't call this a U-turn - this is no replacement for furlough.

It's a pretty nasty, cynical scheme. It basically forces companies on the brink to make their redundancies or close down now rather than trying to tough it out until the new year when the next economic shock comes. It means that any redundancies are blamed on COVID and the businesses themselves rather than the government or Brexit.

It was pretty obvious that we were never going to have another furlough after the three month campaign in the press to label furloughed workers as workshy scroungers and the companies taking part in it con artists. That well has been irreparably poisoned.

Well, that's my missus out of work then.

Sorry to hear that Spider. I'm afraid we are in for the mother of all collapses now.

I've gone from thinking the next wave of redundancies will happen in January to we will just stay in this first wave redundancies until Spring 2021. I think I only know a handful of organisations who haven't furloughed and made redundancies. My job is secure for now but I work in examinations and assessments; if they cannot happen due to lockdowns then we are fucked.
