Previous topic - Next topic

DrGreggles

Daphne & Celeste - Ugly (Christina Aguilera - Beautiful)
Erasure - Stop (Jam - Start)
Beloved - Hello (Spice Girls - Goodbye)

Any others out there? There's surely enough to get a quiz round out of it.

(80s and later, please.)

jobotic

Olivia Newton John - Let's Get Physical ( Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax )

The Culture Bunker

The number 1 stipulation makes it a bit tricky! Presumably you need both songs to be post 1980...

The Culture Bunker

Oh, how about:

The Police - Don't Stand So Close to Me/Phyllis Nelson - Move Closer

Both #1 hits!

Lovely stuff.

I'll also change the previous Erasure to Sam Brown, so I can use them again elsewhere:
Erasure Always (All Saints Never Ever)
Eminem Without Me (Nilsson/Mariah Carey Without You)
George Michael Outside (Stiltskin Inside)
Moby Go (Shakespear's Sister Stay)

The Culture Bunker

Mel and Kim - Respectable/Duran Duran - Notorious

purlieu

David Bowie - Look Back in Anger (Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger)
Haim - Don't Wanna (Spice Girls - Wannabe)
The Divine Comedy - Sunrise (Chemical Brothers - Setting Sun)
Green Day - Suffocate (Prodigy - Breathe)

edit: actually, only the Haim one there was a single. Didn't read the thread title properly.

Panbaams

Madonna: "Music"/Madonna: "Me Against The Music"
Madonna: "I Rise"/Madonna: "Deeper And Deeper"
Madonna: "Bad Girl"/Madonna: "Angel"
Madonna: "Get Together"/Madonna: "Miles Away"
Madonna: "Like A Virgin"/Madonna: "Girl Gone Wild"
Madonna: "Who's That Girl?"/Madonna: "Bitch I'm Madonna"
Madonna: "Crazy For You"/Madonna: "Keep It Together"
Madonna: "Material Girl"/Madonna: "Nothing Really Matters"
Madonna: "Don't Tell Me"/Madonna: "Express Yourself"
Madonna: "Frozen"/Madonna: "Burning Up"

Don't be like that. Most of them went to number 1 or were hit singles somewhere.

purlieu

Ash - Burn Baby Burn (Madonna - Frozen)
Spice Girls - Viva Forever / All Saints - Never Ever (double number one bonus)

Lemming

Linkin Park - Numb / Mariah Carey - Emotions
Silverchair - Tomorrow / Fatboy Slim - Right Here, Right Now
Fleetwood Mac - Monday Morning / Whigfield - Saturday Night
Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence / Slade - Cum On Feel The Noize
Stereo MCs - Connected / Hall & Oates - Out of Touch
Electronic - Getting Away With It / Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing

DrGreggles

Thanks for these. Just about got a roundful now.

Didn't have to keep digging for 'Chained Melody' or 'White White Wine' anyway.

Captain Z

Eamon - Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)
Frankee - Fuck You Right Back

Sing - Travis
Shut Up - Kelly Osbourne

OK, neither actually topped the chart, but one of them got to number three.

studpuppet

Petula Clark - Downtown*
Althea & Donna - Uptown Top Ranking

*A US No.1 but strangely only got to No. 2 here.

studpuppet

Joe Dolce - Shaddap You Face
Tears For Fears - Shout*

*Again, a US No. 1 but only got to 4 in the UK

studpuppet

I also like the idea of:

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Captain & Tenile - Love Will Keep Us Together

flotemysost

Lady Gaga - Just Dance / Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing

Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee) / Coldplay - Yellow[nb]Depending on which colour theory model you use, I suppose[/nb]

Neil Sedaka's original 1973 version of Love Will Keep Us Together was recorded in the same studio that Joy Division recorded the A-side 'slow' version of Love Will Tear Us Apart in - 10cc's Strawberry Studios in Stockport (the B-sde 'fast' version came from the session at Pennine Sound a couple of months earlier but Ian and Martin Hannett were unhappy with the vocal take).

smudge1971

Come On Eileen - Dexys

I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair - The Weather Girls

Dr Rock

Gulftastic

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

Smudge wins the thread.

Not even a single, but sod it:
[here comes] The Fear - Pulp
There Goes the Fear - Doves

Jump - Van Halen / Sit Down - James
Alternatively, Get up, Stand Up  - Bob Marley.

Natnar

Baby Come Back - The Equals
(It's Alright) Baby's Coming Back - Eurythmics

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

Hello - The Beloved
Goodbye- The Sundays
( Or, alternatively, Fuck Off- Wayne County and the Electric Chairs)

None of them Number 1s, for which I apologise.

Gulftastic

Walking on broken glass - Annie Lennox
Walking On Sunshine - Katrina & The Waves

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

Meat is Murder - The Smiths
Shake Hands With Beef - Primus
