Author Topic: 1967 track that sounds like exactly like The Smiths for the first minute  (Read 516 times)

By The Peep Show (no, not that one) from 1967, Your Servant Stephen':

Dontcha think? It goes off the rails with the chorus from about 1.05 on, but that first minute is chronology-confusingly dead on in how it much it anticipates how early Smiths stuff would sound 15 or so years later, to me anyway. The name in the title doesn't hurt either.

As was mentioned in the 'alternative history' thread, there's a bit of Belle and Sebastian in there as well.

Proclaimed by David Jacobs on Juke Box Jury as "the worst song of the year", the cheeky twat!

Ah sorry hadn’t checked out that thread: looks chock full of good stuff though, will try and work my way through it.

The internet seems to list completely different lyrics for it for some reason?
