Come on into our alternative pop history thread, it's stuffed to the gunnels with this sort of thing.

How about Catapilla? Their album Changes might be up your street.

Gather Me by Melanie is one of my favourite albums.

Amon Düül II and Popol Vuh were lucky enough to have Renate Knaup as their singer.

I have a soft spot for Jan Anderson in Yes, maximum rofl

Sally Oldfield's 1978 album 'Water Bearer' is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0q5-fdgcW4&list=PL04B88F1B8D37A854

Pavlov's Dog, too. Which I thought for YEARS was fronted by a female vocalist.

Dorothea Raukes did some very acceptable warbling for Streetmark (albeit they were no longer really progging it by the time she was doing the lion's share of the singing).  Her voice is nothing spectacular, but it's solid and clear enough.

French singer Catherine Lara's second album (1972) has definite proggy elements, and is all-round excellent.

Mellow Candle's Swaddling Songs is brilliant and fits the bill perfectly, I reckon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF6WhrEemT4

Eskaton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrLSOKI4CmA A pair of female vocalists with different ranges, creating thrilling and unexpected clashing madness. For full Eskaton vocal effect, start at 4m 22s.

I think I know exactly what sound you're describing.  Soaring female folk sirens are my favourite sound.

(I'll stop there, 'cause this is too much my jam not to spam).

Thanks! I'm still listening in order, and have found some good stuff from everyone... Right now, I'm at Bran. I liked the song you posted, and a few others. If I like one song, I try to check out their entire discography.

It's all good, man.  Was surprised and inspired by seeing a thread with Spirogyra (has there ever been a greater contrast between the male and female singer in one band?  No there hasn't.  Still kind of works) and Trees (if ever any Folk Rock song kicketh'd ye olde arse, Murdoch was said song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suha38pojO0) suddenly popping up.  There've been loads of almost as good psychey folk bands in the last couple of decades with clear as a bell Goddesses on vocals who are worth looking up, too, but there was something about the very early '70s when it comes to lost gems.  I guess it was the golden age of record companies embarking on signing sprees which collectors are still attempting to sift through today.

If you can include jazz fusion in the bracket then Seawind are a must. Brassy, sassy vocals courtesy of a half Hawaiian/Filipino. What is jazz fusion if not a proggier version of funk(or funkier version of prog)?
