Peter Greenaway casually refers to the original 3.5 hour cut on the dvd commentary of the Draughtsman's Contract, and one of the differences being an explanation for the nude statue that keeps coming to life and prancing about, for some reason.

I remember the deleted scenes on the DVD were not really any more enlightening about that, "something something something meta comment on artistic perception something something something".

El Unicornio, mang

My favourite comedy, Planes, Trains and Automobiles was originally 3 hours long and although the finished product is perfect at 1hr30, I've watched it so many times that I'd love to see the longer version. A copy of the original shooting script (signed by the two stars) with all the cut scenes is available, here:

I can understand why it was cut, there's a lot of extraneous dialogue and scenes that slow it down, but still well worth a read.

sadly this is the only filmed scene that's been made available, although it's a good one

Interesting, thanks for posting that El U. I don't remember there being any plane scenes in the movie actually - maybe at the start? It's awhile since I saw it.

El Unicornio, mang

There's a bit where Del is taking his shoes and socks off and blabbering about his shower curtain ring business but they definitely cut a lot of other plane stuff including that scene and a long anecdote (which is referenced in a scene later on in the film when Neal has a go at him for telling "boring anecdotes")

Yer man Hughes did that quite a bit - I remember talk of a similar length version of "The Breakfast Club" too. I presume it's the same for loads of movies, but most of them are shite and no-one wants to see a minute more of them.
