Sorry BritishHobo already said that I didn't read it properly

- The video of that bloke tearing some plastic down (possibly in a Tesco), being shared around various networks by the usual (seemingly English) types.

Can't just be me that found the way that bloke moves and acts in that video funny as fuck right? He's made himself look a right wally.

idunnosomename

Julia Fartly Pooer called him a "hero"

lol

Its a clusterfuck for them sadly as its  given a lot of bored people something to moan about, allowed the idiots a chance to protest against something else, given the UK press a chance to give the Welsh lockdown a smug kicking and allowed those who had a general dislike of the Sennedd anyway something to vent about, after months of having to live with a surprisingly competent response to the first wave.

Not sure how genuine the anger is but I've heard a few conversations this week with some incredible 'whataboutism' going on . The amount of pensioners with no internet or local family whose kettles are  going to break this week is off the chart.

The logic behind it makes sense and it's clearly come directly from local\small business lobbying. As with a lot of things that come out of the Sennedd though it's a sensible idea implemented badly.

On balance I'm still glad to be in a country that tries (and fails) to get these things right though.

paruses

Me too. That Nation op-ed piece was good, I thought. Won't stop people demanding their right to buy scatter cushions though.

Daily Mail have an article on how Drakeford is a socialist and an aetheist and ran it under a picture of him sharing a drink with Corbyn. I didn't click on it so can't tell you any more. This might be better posted in the England Has Lost Its Mind thread.

BritishHobo

Oh, they really have fucked this, haven't they? The thing today with a woman being told she can't buy sanitary items is gonna stick in people's minds, along with the easily-outrageous image of a nation of people being banned from buying clothes and kettles - even if that's a heavily sensationalised analysis of some well-meaning but overzealous errors. People in my work are furious at the Welsh government. As much as I think people online are being really theatrical, and it's being stoked up by those with a vested interest in undermining devolution, it's pretty undeniable that it's worked, and the damage has been done.
Unless this circuit breaker lockdown has the magic effect of curing COVID, it's going to stick in the public consciousness as a clear example of the Welsh government being out-of-touch authoritarians. The Abolish the Assembly cunts have been handed a massive early Christmas present.

bgmnts

Apparently if you do go in and say you do need some new baby clothes etc they will sell it to you. B and M aren't even bothering, they're relying on customer discretion LOL.

Full on Tory Cymru here we go.

Captain Z

Wales was already probably going Tory at the next election, this may well have sealed it.

BritishHobo

Absolute hellfuck.

Wonder what the voter turnout will be next year.

Zetetic

I think the situation is probably rescuable at this point.

I'm not convinced it's rescuable by someone like Gething, however.

Only if Labour were so cunty they'd prefer to let the Tories take control rather than form a coalition with Plaid....oh...of course they are, what am I thinking.

WG is doomed. Not bothered really.

Glyn

Wonder if Drakeford could still come out of this well if the English Lockdown does get enforced soon? Welsh public may soon forget the 2 weeks that the tat aisle in Lidl was cordoned off ,if a short October lockdown avoids something worse.
Plenty of time for that to go all wrong mind.

Zetetic

It's quite plausible that we'll follow England into their lockdown, despite the two weeks.

Not least because the Westminster government is still being absolute cunts when it comes to financial support (and that support depending on England being in lockdown).

Zetetic

Although:

"Any announcement by @10DowningStreet
will relate to England.

The Welsh firebreak will end on Monday, November 9.

Our cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss any potential border issues for Wales in light of any announcement by No 10."

Is this "firebreak" really going to tide us over all the way til Christmas?

Glyn

Will be very interesting to see how they approach it this week. In theory an English lockdown gives them more scope to be cautious and solves the border issue for a while.
Imagine someone is currently working out how many restrictions will people still accept in the knowledge that it's worse over the bridge.

poo

u Glyn from BB by any chance?

Glyn

Sadly not but I heard through the union that the poor guy is completely unrecognisable now , his own mother would walk past him.

QuoteGlyn pursued a career in politics after finishing in second place in Big Brother - running in an election for Plaid Cymru.
Fuck my hat!

daf

I think he's a bit of a Tory now, if his tweets are anything to go by.

Zetetic

Gething was apparently very clear this morning that they expect us to come out of lockdown on the 10th Nov, and not to return to lockdown before 2021 (but that they can't guarantee this, of course).

I'm not convinced this is the right course.

Seriously is there a reason not to support some form of independence now? Not joking.

Stockholm syndrome?

Zetetic

The serious reason is that living the UK just leaves a country 10x your size as a neighbour that continues to depend on you for natural resources, that has considerably ethnic-national population overlap and is becoming ever more desperate to externalise its problems.

England has to go if you want the UK to go.

The Cloud of Unknowing

Wales out of the firebreak as of an hour ago -  England you're not singing anymore.

Gething says the figures in Wales are "plateauing", but it takes more time than this to form a plateau, surely.

Jittlebags

Yes! I'm taking a half day off tomorrow, driving to Llandudno Junction for a Maccie D, then going walking on the hills above Llanrwst.
