Anyone played this? Is it any good, and if it is how much story do you have to play through before it leaves you alone to explore future dystopian London?

falafel

If it's anything like 2 you can just go wherever you like whenever you like I think but the better tech you get from quests can help make it more fun.

Reviews have suggested the mayhem and the world are what make it worth playing. Bit of a shame because 2 had a good (for a game) story behind it... but I'm glad to see a version of the mechanical spider drone that you get to use for 5 minutes in WD2 (and which was great fun but clearly shonky and would have broken most of the game) seems to play a big role.

Anyone actually bothered with this or waiting for the inevitable sale?

Mobius

I was looking forward to this but everything I have read since release points to it being a downgrade. Features removed, shitter graphics than WD2 and aside from the 'play as anyone' gimmick and exploring London there's not much to it. Apparently the AI are thick as shit, and it gets repetitive fast.

It's a Ubisoft game so you probably know what to expect...

Reviews have not been very good https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/watch-dogs-legion

Personally I'm holding off, probably pick up acheaper PS5 version in future. Gonna hang off for a week and get Assassins Creed: Valhalla (also a Ubisoft game, but looks alright!)

There's a relatively short mission and a tower hacking section before you get thrown in. All the Tube stations are unlocked from the start. The procedural generation means the story is pretty bare, but in introducing permadeath and playing as anyone Ubisoft have slave-driven their abuse victims to accidentally make a fun game. Turn permadeath on. The mayhem is there. Lots of options to solve the missions. You can get blackout drunk and some characters are stronger in this state. The physics are janky as anything right now, in the way only Ubisoft's sex attacker cabal can pull off. The escort AI is dreadful, Dead Rising-level tedious. I'm having a good time with it.

(I bought it for the multiplayer co-op, and yes, I feel bad about it.)

I'm still sort of curious but happy enough to wait on it a bit, as going from Ubisoft's past practices it could well be on sale for half-price or better by christmas with the muted response it's been getting.

Bazooka

Story has been criticised, but that's the equivalent to the story and dialogue in a Fast and Furious film. Also the main gimmick was switching between all these different characters offering unique abilities and gear, but apparently by our can play as anyone and access most of it regardless.

I only played 2, but gave up because the gameplay was very bare bones, and had poor combat.

It's developed by Ubisoft Toronto, who are also doing Far Cry 6, and I'm a big defender of the FC series, holding off buying a PS5 until that releases.

Im really looking for an open world game like this but I know id hate it. Bought the last one and didnt like it at all.
I like Ubisoft games but I know this would feel like an inferior GTA game and id end up wanting to be playing one of those instead.

How accurate is the map? Would I be able to visit my flat near Old Street for example?

Yes, you will be there and you can hack revenge porn onto your iPod.

A few Youtubers I follow can navigate without the minimap, it's that familiar. It's a condensed London. so I don't know about residential areas, but it's gone down well.

Neomod

Like with The Getaway before it I will play this at some point to see if I can find various old workplaces of mine. I see Camden's on the map so expect a mission ending in a scrap at the Good Mixer with an army of robo - Graham Coxons.

Watching some gameplay the accents are all over the place.

Innit.

I live in Wapping, didn't think they'd go any further than Tower bridge but amazingly most of my neighbourhood is in there, even if my actual street isn't as they've skipped the boring bit in the middle round the old Murdoch estate. My local pub is about the furthest east on the map you can go and they've recreated the inside of it pretty accurately even when they've had to change the name. And the weird multi-level beer garden/balconies out back. How the fuck have they done that? Science.

Gurke and Hare

Thanks. I've got a ton of Nectar points to use up, so if I can I'll pick this up next week when their double points value event is on. Although I've found out today that Helen fucking Lewis is one of the radio voices in it.

George Oscar Bluth II

Sort of want this but not for £50, c'mon

This just came up in the Linehan thread, Gurke and Hare:

https://kotaku.com/ubisoft-to-remove-controversial-host-from-watch-dogs-le-1845596398/amp?__twitter_impression=true

I'd never heard of her, but this is the right decision. One less black mark on one of the worst companies in the industry.

Zetetic

As I asked in that thread - are they going to re-record the relevant audio?

Thursday

Now they need to replace Ian Dunt as well. He's not said anything Terfy, but he is a massive centrist cunt.

Beat this just now. Story suffers through the random generation but one early segment involving their take on Elon Musk was quite good. Epic says I've played it for roughly 27 hours. Minusing crashes and running around collecting tech points, the story felt short and WD2, which I didn't even finish, is longer. It's fun to run around but ultimately I felt really detached from anything except my dead operatives that got memorialised in the credits. RIP Maxwell, 70 year-old low-mobility hackerman and accidental Abu Hamza lookalike. Gone but not forgotten.

Anyway, believe Ubisoft employees.

Accurate to real life then.

I liked the first one, lived in Chicago for 2 years so was familiar with where everything was, aside from things like The Bean having to be changed for copyright reasons. But I recall the game itself wasn't able to hold my interest after the novelty wore off. Nice to just have these accurate worlds to explore though.

Zetetic

It's a shame that they're not available for other people to build decent games in.

I wonder if by 2090, or whenever they hit public domain, they'll be of any interest to anyone.

Just bumping this to point out it's currently going for half-price as expected. Probably worth a punt at $29.99 or your regional equivalent.

Utter Shit

I know there were a lot of bugs etc when it first came out, have these been sorted out yet? Is the game any good now? More to the point, if I just want it to be able to wander around a virtual London is it a decent recreation visually/atmosphere wise?

beanheadmcginty

I got this on Sunday and immediately tried visiting as many Wetherspoons as possible. Turns out they're all closed in this dystopian future, although The Angel has become a titty bar, which could be a nice change of pace.

Utter Shit

Just bought this, no interest in the storyline I just want to wander around London. Can I bomb the M&M store?
