Or t.A.T.u. doing How Soon Is Now.

Also Sugababes did Gary Numan and Girls Aloud done Arctic Monkeys

Didn't one of them do a Kaiser Chiefs cover as well? Wasn't very good (neither was the original to be fair), but I seem to remember that happened,

Marner and Me

Which is the top of the cuntdown list though? I actively despise the Lily Allen and Keane one. Along with the Strongbow one.

The Sugababes' 'Freak Like Me' was an officially-released version of Richard X's We Don't Give A Damn About Our Friends bootleg (which he released under the alias Girls On Top, as he was putting female vocals on top of instrumentals). The bootleg used the original Adina Howard acapella of Freak Like Me over a sample-based instrumental reconstruction of Are Friends Electric?. Richard wanted to release it officially and Virgin signed him up and got the Tubeway Army samples cleared, but Howard blocked the use of her vocals so he approached the Sugababes (the Mk2 version of whom were just about to release their first album).

It wasn't a cover, it was them trying to copy Adina Howard's vocals over a sample-based instrumental version of the Tubeway Army track.

Are there any good examples of the opposite of this being done? I.e. a 'credible' indie guitar type song being covered with synthesizers, drum machines and autotuned/yelpy 80s vocals?

This doesn't exactly fit the bill of the thread but I really like this Big Joanie cover of No Scrubs.
