nowadays when you want to see a guy picking broken glass out of his weeping anus, you've gotta sign up on his onlyfans. You just see a shitty 15-second preview on Pornhub and it cuts out all the best bits.

Can I just give some respect for the stoicism that One Man One Jar displays. He's not concerned at all, he's not running around and calling the ambulance and screaming in terror. He just gets on with it. I made a bigger deal out of banging my knee the other day.

I was thinking the same and the answer is nothing.

TrenterPercenter

If anyone is actually interested in why Onlyfans is a thing and why it may or may not be a problem (rather than talking about people injecting shit into their cocks) Baudrilliards work on the simulcra and simulation would be very much worth a look.

poo

who's injecting shit into their cocks - wass going on? So Only fans is lame then - it's not like you go on there and there are celebs you've never seen naked before doing e.g. stretching their arse holes out or ramming hot stuffing down their chevres/yappons?

TrenterPercenter

Indeed.

It's basically Uber for porn isn't it, a disruptive technology that reduces the role of organisations/guilds under the guise of independence (although ultimately independent workers are subject to platform and generate it's revenue all the same).

it's closer to patreon for porn. I'd expect uber to be far more exploitative

About 7 or 8 years ago a band I was in wanted to make a video of loads of different people all lip-synching to one of our songs (yes I know it's ripped off from Feeder, wasn't my idea to do it) and we found a site where people would make a 5 minute video of them speaking or possibly doing other stuff and you paid them a few quid. Obviously the first thing you think is something like only fans, but it wasn't pron related at all and pretty much all of the people offering their services were fully dressed* and seemed to be wannabe actors offering to read lines out for some reason. Frustratingly I can't remember what it was called or exactly how it worked now, if it was definitely limited to 5 minutes or if it was more than just videos.

Edit; Found it, it's fiverr.com and we must have looked in the music video section or something. Prices have gone up though, I'm sure we worked out we'd pay each person about £5 to lip-synch the whole song which we'd then edit

*Although a distinct rift in our band appeared when a couple of the guys wanted a to use a girl offering to dance in her bikini while she said the lines, and the rest of us said NO.

Yep I've edited my comment now, I found it just after posting!

There's a load of soap stars who sell messages like that but don't have the licence so for example they have to be very clear the message is from, say, Simon Gregson rather than Steve McDonald.

Perhaps i don't know enough about Patreon or Onlyfans but from that video it's look much more like Uber in that it is supplying the "platform" for work to occur on; so your means of sharing/streaming/giving access to content, a shop front of sorts and gamification (I imagine within onlyfans the creators themselves can purchase different packages of tools they can use).

I'm talking about it's distruptive qualities in that it allows anyone to be a content creator and does away with the cost organisations/guilds and all the associated costs.  Has there been any kick back from the usual porn creators?

EDIT: so i just checked some blurb on Patreon and it appears they do do this as well, I thought this was an almost crowd funding model with Patreon providing an index of creators (like a justgiving page).  Anyway I still see Onlyfans as having much more functionality in its gamification for it's purpose (which is getting people hooked on imaginary relationships).

That's fiverr innit

Good for commissioning small pieces of coding stuff too. Someone I know used it to commission a browser extension to delete all their forum posts after mods refused to. It worked but it also revealed some terrible bugs in the forum software, presumably due to indexes not getting decremented when posts were deleted.

Is it the same as most patreon in that you can subscribe for a month and get all the past stuff then unsubscribe?

Nah you pay someone as little as 5 dollars and they do something for you individually. Like freelance mini-jobs.

Zetetic

I think defining features of Uber are:
- Significant capital cost to the worker.
- Piecework, access to which is controlled by the intermediary.

(Deliveroo is similar, albeit with less significant capital cost, and other considerations about the relationship between workers and restaurants/kitchens.)

The first of which is, for the most part, notably absent from sex work (which is one of the attractive things about it for many people, I suggest) and the second simply isn't the case here.

I'm not sure that OnlyFans as a platform has a huge amount to criticise, and bears similarity to Patreon and Bandcamp.

But, it probably doesn't make sense to consider OnlyFans in isolation, if you're interested in the operations of workers who will also be using to gain revenue (gift buying) and exposure (which opens them up the algorithms of TikTok, Insta, YouTube) through other channels, and using their own dubious techniques to leverage the parasocial relationships to those ends within the content itself (which gets perhaps to Trenter's gamification).

Which is also true of people selling music and people who publish monthly long-form video essays, I'm sure, but I think you can still recognise that and also recognise that sex - whether it's also work - has a different quality to those things.

Sebastian Cobb

I imagine if onlyfans were more like uber they'd be working on AI sex workers so they could sack off their human employees and there would be a horrible unscrupulous machine learning algorithm tricking some very lonely individuals into thinking it loves them back for more ££££

Icehaven

The thing with sex work is, like it or not, there is often still a stigma about it, and in the future someone doing it now might want to forget they ever did it and not want there to be any record that they ever did it, but if it's all online it's always, always going to be out there somewhere, and knowing that, even if it never surfaces, could be a difficult thing to have to live with. I'm not saying anyone should be ashamed or embarrassed about having done it, and I'm sure a lot will never be, but a lot of them are young and their lives could take a different direction relatively soon, and it wouldn't be good for your psyche having to always consider that your employer/potential employer, colleagues, family or whoever might find out because it's all on hard drives somewhere, and that you might be judged negatively by it.

The flip side of that of course is that, precisely because of things like only fans, in the not too distant future the stigma around sex work might be hugely reduced in much the same way no one is horrified of there being drunken teenage pictures of them on social media anymore because everyone has them. Whether or not the normalisation of sex work is a good thing is a whole other kettle of fish though. Although I spose it is kind of what the thread is about.

I had a peek and some Only Fans and stuff and yeah, I'm not sure it's for me. First of all I felt a little awkward about people I'd subscribed to messaging me some pretty forward stuff and explicit content (especially cos I kinda know one of the people - she knows it's me too and messaged me to say hi) It seems like some of it is trying to replicate the experience of having a partner for a lonely, single person (myself) which could be a bit difficult if you started thinking the creator your were subscribed to was actually interested in you (again, I worry down the line I'd have this problem if I became too attached to someone messaging me everyday) And it seems like it could become dangerously addictive what with paying to unlock videos the creator sends you. I can only imagine some of the obscene messages the creators must have to deal with getting back. Maybe I'm just an old git but nah I don't think I'm in to it at all.

God you're all so old.

"Let's talk about this onlyfans thing"
"Hrm Hpmph I don't understand what this newfangled onlyfans even is. In my days it was all... *something completely irrelevant"

Shut up you boring old farting twats.

Still unclear whether there's insertions, blasting, gobbe etc on only fans. Just a yes or no FFS.

yes there is PIV intercourse and  many sexual perversions on onlyfans. I can tell from the previews on pornhub. I doubt you can find much gobbe on it though:

I don't understand what this Onlyfans even is. In my day it was all riding a penny-farthing down to the World's Fair to meet Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
