Essay collection, about wanking and photography, amongst other things.

I dunno, even as a fan of essays and elliptical writing, I found this a little too elliptical perhaps. That said, I enjoyed it and applaud the ambition and range. Anyone read this? Buttgammon?

Yeah, I read it a while back and agree that it's just too elliptical, but there was enough to find a lot of the individual components interesting. The idea of being self-reflexive about his image of pretentiousness was probably the best element of the book.

In terms of current Irish non-fiction, Mark O'Connell is better. Doireann Ní Ghríofa is also good but she's better as a poet.
