Looks like Nandy was on Marr bigging up Churchill and statues then spouted some bollocks about 'wokes'.

Opinion divided on whether Marr is a 'trot' or a vehicle for right-wing talking points:

Just watched it.  Starts at abour 16.16 here.  As you know I despise Nandy both for her politics and her awful kitten-weeping, nevertheless, I felt, on this, she had a fine line to navigate and, given the questions and the impossibility of expanding due to time constraint, does not deserve the trebuchet.  Not for this, other stuff, of course, absolutely.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Currently she is a person of astounding irrelevance so we may as well trebuchet a hock of pasture.

Jockice

Is there ever a week when she's not on the Andrew Marr show? I mean I don't watch it every single week but when I do she's ALWAYS on it.

Fuck me, just saw this

QuoteThe public's trust in the way the UK is run is breaking down, former Labour prime minister Gordon Brown has warned.  He said Covid-19 had exposed "tensions" between Whitehall and the nations and regions, who were often treated by the centre as if they were "invisible".

He must have two glass eyes if he didn't notice that the Labour governments he was involved with did exactly the same.  Why do we let these people continue speaking?  Corbyn, meanwhile, is a leper.

Paul is referencing the work of one Stewart Lee, Piggy, a popular comedian of these times.

I had heard that, but it was hardly steeped in my cultural consciousness to immediately get it.

scarecrow

Surely PC is referencing Jeremy Clarkson, of whom that is a direct quotation.

Paul Calf

I was referencing Stewart Lee, who was referencing Clarkson.

I can do jokes, I just choose not to.

A paper has been approved to vet future parliamentary candidates.  The general secretary has the power to unilaterally disqualify any candidate - https://twitter.com/mish_rahman/status/1352639220834332676

I doubt we will see a socialist being allowed to run as an MP again.

Before standing as a candidate, Zarah Sultana made a couple of emotive Facebook posts that garnered a few minutes of controversy:

QuoteDuring the campaign, The Jewish Chronicle reported that in 2015, while she was a student, Sultana made social media posts from a subsequently deleted account which implied that she would celebrate the deaths of former Labour prime minister Tony Blair, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former US president George W. Bush and she supported "violent resistance" by Palestinians. Sultana apologised for the posts and stated that she no longer held those views and "wrote them out of frustration rather than any malice". The Labour Party re-interviewed her as a consequence of the posts, and she remained the candidate

I wonder if, under the new rules, Zarah would've been filtered out before she could stand for MP?

Sebastian Cobb

Those might be the reasoning but the search would be conducted based on what she stood for.

God, they're so bad. Literally campaigning for a worse version of the status quo. Shame on everyone who worked toward this.

jobotic

Campaigning for key workers by shitting all over trade unions and voting for a far-right brexit. Fuck off Keith.

Towards the end Lee makes an interesting observation which is that instead of trying to argue with people who have been brainwashed by alt-right media, use the terms that they would be horrified to have applied to themselves, so if they are anti-Islamist point out they've been radicalised and say they have become a form of hate preacher.

I love Stew, but this felt sad to watch in places. Like the bit in which he describes himself as a 'news junkie', then elaborates by saying that he watches the Sky News review of the papers every night. Get on Twitter, ya dope!

The latest from Jezza's legal fund:

£368,939 from 18.5k donors.

Quote from: Yesterday by Carole Morgan, Organiser
Hello my dear friends,

I hope you are all safe and well and spent an enjoyable time during the holidays. I would also like to wish you all a very happy New Year.

I wanted to update you on what has been happening with the fund. Banks are experiencing considerable delays in processing new applications for business accounts. We are still awaiting contact from the banks that have accepted our applications and that is the reason that you can still see your donations sitting with Go Fund Me. As soon as we have news regarding a bank account I will let you know, but in the meantime please be assured that your donations are safe with Go Fund Me.

Some of you have contacted me under the impression that the defamation cases will not proceed. The litigators have 12 months to bring their cases to court and so we won't know until July 2021 whether they intend to proceed or not.

Another issue that has been raised is that of using some of the funds for other purposes. We cannot do this as it would mean breaking the law, nor would we be allowed to by Go Fund Me. We can only use the funds for the original purposes described and laid out in JBC Defence Ltd, Articles of Association.

I am very grateful to all of you for your patience and continued support both for this fund, and for Jeremy Corbyn, who is an inspiration and shining light in these dark and difficult times.

My love and gratitude to you all,

Carole xxx
