A good mate of mine got glassed in Birmingham the other day for the horrific crime of...holding another man's hand. I fucking hate this country so much.

There's been a spate of attacks against gay people in Brum; it's worrying. I hope your friend recuperates well.

There's a show of solidarity this evening:

Shoulders?-Stomach!

I see The Guardian are continuing to play both sides for clickthroughs.

Still, I thought this part particularly perceptive:

That's what I like about Neville Southall, he does this thing where he lets activists or marginalised people guest on his Twitter so they can speak for themselves, rather than speaking on behalf of them. (And he was a beast of a keeper in his day too.)

Transgender male lad on the Omid Djalili quiz gameshow (I'm ill tbf) announcing he wanted the money to pay for top surgery, which fair play I thought was pretty ballsy to announce on live telly and I was like yeah get in boy.

My mother even went 'aww' which I thought was a weirdly nice reaction.

Jamie Lee Curtis' daughter Ruby has come out as trans!

Just sacked Netflix

Though to be honest, I wouldn't have taken much convincing to get rid of the overpriced delete-a-thon anyway.

Where will I get my weird documentaries about the warring periods of ancient China and the einsatzegruppen??

Not even being funny, Netflix fills some gaps for me.

Link to a quite sweet interview of her and Jamie Lee . I must admit, hack that I am, I couldn't help think it seems oddly fitting given her grandad's greatest role and those (oddly sexualized) rumours about her mum back in the day.

Did he pick up a fat cheque?

BTW I take my hat off to you Tookish (or would if I had a hat).

I don't think realistically most will care if you hang on to it!

For most cases I'd say piracy but that doesn't work for obscure stuff.

Anyone have any experience with dealing with eating disorders and trans stuff?

Beat is always good for all eating disorder based stuff.

https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/your-stories/im-trans-and-have-eating-disorder/

A 16 year old female-born student of mine with whom I have a very close/good relationship: three years of class, I supervised a year-long project they did, stayed behind at break on Thursday and told me they were a man and would like to use their male name in my class. Starting in my class where he feels more comfortable and then doing it in others. Really didn't expect it and hard to react to in the moment other than saying "fine, of course, we can do that, I'll support you with whatever you decide" etc and giving him a big hug. So I gathered my thoughts overnight and we spoke again in today in more detail, expressing my support and admiration. He's a great kid. An incredibly talented artist and perceptive, funny, mature, really level-headed. Really brought home how difficult it must be.

It's great that you're being so supportive and professional, Poisson Du Jour. I hope the other teachers follow your example. As you say, it must be incredibly difficult.

Dr Rock

Mighty good work, Poisson Du Jour

Exploring The "Gender Critical" Radicalization Pipeline

I really like this creator. She's very straightforward about the issues and why the "other side" is not merely a debating club, but a hate group. She covers the BBC "We're being pressured into sex" article but really gets the bigger picture of the GC movement as it relates to radicalization via online echo chambers more generally. Well worth a watch.

I was just on a work call with a couple of colleagues, both mid 40s, white cis males, never struck me as politically left in any way - anyway I mentioned someone we work with and asked if they were still with the business and one of them said 'have you not seen the interview on the intranet they did with one of their team who has come out as trans? Really powerful' and the other one said 'no, wow, it's so good they've done this and could feel comfortable enough to put this out.'

No snark, no jokes, just acceptance.

Probably a wise idea to get that joke pulled to be fair, it wasnt very good.

He makes good points though about Chappelle.
