Taskmaster series 11

Yeah, that one flew by. The sewing bee reminded me of the horse painting task from S1.

Having complained about some of the tasks in the second episode being too difficult, I thought the second part of the cling film and tape task was maybe a bit too easy. But I'm nitpicking, because it at least meant that Jamali was rewarded for his lateral thinking.

Fantastic episode overall. I thought the bee task was a classic and the studio task was the best in a long time too.

I'm not really sure how the tasks this series are streets ahead of the previous one seeing as they were filmed at the same time. But I'm delighted that they are.

Enzo

I fancy Charlotte, Sarah and Mike. This is confusing.

Ja'moke

Another really fun episode, with the live task, once again, being a real highlight.

Much better than the last series.

DrGreggles

Wozniack is fast becoming my favourite TM contestant ever.

Captain Z

Really pleased for this week's winner, and in the way points were dished out across the episode. Decent prize task section for once.

They're really starting to gel, and with Greg in particular. Feels like he dishes out points in a more good-hearted way once he gets to know everyone. Jamali actually giving the appearance of trying with a prize task probably helped.

Some unbelievably kinky scenes with Mike's legs fully taped up.

(Edit: legs)

Wozniack needs his own show. Just get a camera to follow him around like a talking Mr Bean.

That episode felt like classic Taskmaster.  I'm really looking forward to next week's episode teased with; Mike Wozniak delivers a revelation so visceral that it leaves everyone in a state of horrified delirium.

Greg Davies told Ed Gamble that as a Taskmaster moment it's on par with Joe Wilkinson's potato toss.

Lee Mack also described it as "career ending", to which Wozniak said:

QuoteI would suggest two things: one, I'll let people see that for themselves and two, hopefully they'll just cut it out of the edit. Let's hope for two but prepare for one.

Yes, and it needs to be called 'Doctor Who'.

Honestly, I didn't think anything could make me want to prise Doctor Who from Chris Chibnall's cold, dead imagination more than I already do; but the realization that Mike Wozniak is born to play the lead role but only once Chibnall has departed has done just that.

(It just struck me that if Chibnall did cast Wozniak, he would probably cast Lee Mack as a companion)

Got such a thing for Wozniak. Could listen to him all day. Couldn't be his friend I'd spend too much time mooning after him, it'd be awkward

I'd got really bored with Taskmaster but this series has been lovely. Even Mack, who I generally can't stand.

greencalx

Great ep, indeed. As Wayman said, the 2nd half of the film'n'tape task didn't quite deliver on the promise of the 1st, but otherwise it was pretty much flawless.

vainsharpdad

Is Taskmaster like Star Trek Movies - the odd-numbered series are the best?

BeardFaceMan

This is definitely a step up from last series, both in tasks and comedians. This is a much better group, they all seem to get along, no one is an obvious arse, even Lee Mack isn't annoying and I thought he'd be an argumentative nightmare but he's actually been pretty good.

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

I like there being an argumentative one (as long as it's all good natured and funny). That's precisely why I thought Mack would make a good contestant on the series, although it turns out Maddix has fulfilled the role.

I was thinking that earlier, strangely enough. The only exception being that series 8 (the Lou Sanders one) was better than series 9 (the David Baddiel one).

I felt Mack was heading towards his WILTY persona last night. Hopefully he leaves it where he's at just now, which I think is about right. Hopefully he recognises that TM is more of an ensemble piece.

Yeah - I definitely think that he needed to continue the schtick in studio to pay off his many, many mentions about how he was doing the cling/tape task right and any other way shouldn't count. He didn't go full Howard/Stirling though, which suggests he knows the line to tread.

Bee task was ace. Taskmaster is best when there's a good group connection, and you can feel that with this lot. Enjoying it loads.

I think series 10 was let down more by overly complex and/or boring tasks and restricted atmosphere, rather than the contestants - they were a good group, particularly Mawaan and Katherine.

BeardFaceMan

I more meant as a group than individually, they interact better with each other this series.

olliebean

Charlotte Ritchie feeling up an egg with her mouth left something of an impression on me.

Jamali doing the same to a jelly did as well, but not in the same way.

jobotic

Grossed me out that task. Close ups of people's mouths and hair and spit. Eurgh. Stopped watching.

I did wonder if Alex knew what he was up to with that task... he also has a line in tasks where all contestants have to manipulate funny objects with their bare feet, which hasn't gone unnoticed online if you know where to look.

Quote from: Corduroy Castle on April 15, 2021, 12:44:29 PMAlmost every series has someone that I don't like going in, and who usually ends up coming across pretty well and seeming actually quite likable after a few episodes - with the exception of Russel Howard. He's the only person I've liked less after seeing his 'real' personality.

Same. Even Noel Fielding, who I really don't enjoy in general, I didn't mind him on Taskmaster, or not much anyway, I minded the way Greg seemed to often score him too generously because he loves his basic schtick but that wasn't really Noel's fault.

Saw a tweet where someone said they thought Taskmaster was just an excuse for Alex to engage in his public humiliation kink and that if their tweet got enough likes they would write some Greg/Alex gay erotica fiction, and Alex liked the tweet.

I read on TV Tropes (so take it with a pinch of salt) that Levine was on it as part of some contractual obligation, after Dave had broadcast some other show she'd done. What effect that may have had on her approach to the show, I don't know.

The TV Tropes quote is:
"Contractual Obligation Project: Joked about, at least. Several reviewers pointed to Dave Gorman and Alice Levine's apathetic performances as a sign of this; the former because the recommission of his own show, Modern Life Is Goodish (also aired on Dave) may have depended on it, and the latter because the production company also handles the touring version of My Dad Wrote a Porno"

so it's not clear whether there's any evidence for it, or if it's just wild speculation/joking about contestants that people thought seemed uninterested.

(My memory of S6 is that Alice Levine was fine on tasks that interested her, but when they didn't, she didn't bother to put in a lot of effort just for the sake of the show/points/whatever).

BeardFaceMan

I wouldn't have said Gorman was apathetic, he was competitive, he was cheating to try and win.

DrGreggles

Gorman is a fan of the show anyway.
No idea about Levine, as TM is the only time I've been aware of her.

Mr Trumpet

Yeah the format seems exactly like the sort of inventive silliness that Gorman would enjoy. Maybe he wishes he'd come up with it.

WhoMe

Great episode right the way through. The studio tasks should just be variations on that one for the rest of the series and I'd be happy. Jamali making stilted small talk with Alex while the task brief dangled just above his head was amusing.
