Not even the best drummer in the Beatles. He was, however, the best drummer in the Rolling Stones.

Jean-Luc Nancy

oh that sucks. living thirty years after having an heart transplant + cancer is not bad i suppose. never really been a fan of his writing style, too meandering for me. i should watch L'intrus though, it must be on my hard drive somewhere

I think I agree, I've never finished any of his work but I do like hearing specialists who can explain it. God speed team Mitsein

Incidentally perhaps the baldest living philosopher

I don't want to hear 25 minutes of a rolling stones song, Brown Sugar stops at the right point I don't want it to go on for twenty more minutes so it gets to the point in the story where they're both middle aged and their marriage is on the rocks and he's taking her to Brighton for a dirty weekend

Never heard of Charlie Watts before now so he can't have been that good.

Just reading he was born three weeks after 'The Blitz' ended???  No, me neither.

"The Blitz" refers to The Sweet's 1941 smash-hit "Ballroom Blitz," which had spend 3 years at #1. It was only the lack of vinyl (which had been prioritized for war-use) that ended The Sweet's dominance and ubiquity (and gave music-hall crap, like Vera Lynn and Tommy Steele, their chance.)

American GIs brought Music Hall over during the wall. A real cultural disaster, its such an inauthentic and commodifed form of music which quickly replaced the authentic folk music of the British Isles: Theatrical Glam, which had been around since before the Norman invasion

My granddad wouldn't have a piano in the house. The devil's cigarette machines he called them

Good for him. Music should never be played for personal enjoyment, only to offer penance to our Lord. My grandfather had a banjo covered with big spikes that dug into your hands, and a special bass drum that released locusts when kicked.

That must have been what all them massive planes were for. Bit rum to interrupt Roger Waters's magnum opus with it all though.

Bob Geldof imperious over giant animated nazi ukeleles.

Any members of Slade in the theatre tonight?
Get them up against the wall

RIP Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, who enlivened childhood trips to Scottish art galleries considerably, despite a lack of amusingly shaped root vegetables in her art.

Edit: and also boxing promoter Jarvis Astaire, who I've never heard of, but what a name! If you were called that you'd need to know some blokes who could punch people.

Mr Banlon

Ed Asner has died. He was only 91. That sounds old, but that cunt was old for as long as I can remember.

That's absolutely all of the original cast of " The Mary Tyler- Moore Show" gone, then.

McChesney Duntz

Lost three of them just this year. Geez.
