Oops. Can Barry move this to Oscillations. Cheers.

Ange (French band) have given me a great deal of pleasure during the Covid tedium. Confrontational, arch Progressive rock in a theatrical style with beautiful Keyboard / Mellotron parts and loads of silly fast grooves for jumping about. My comprehension of spoken / Sung French (and many other beautiful languages, alas) is shit, but with Ange, I particularly enjoy taking a ride on pure emotion. Anyways, this aint some good for nothing thread about Ange (their first six albums are amazing btw) but a thread about Insanely Angry Vocal Performances.

For starters, have a listen to Christian Décamps.

The song is called Les Longues Nuits d'Isaac and for those of a nervous disposition, his sarcasm, fear and disappointment turns to pure rage after 2m59s.

Please share with me your favourite [nb]Anything from Nina Simone to Jello Biafra by way of Anita Harris. [/nb]angry vocal performances spat out into a microphone over an interesting toe-tapping tune. Ta.

Glebe

Faith No More - 'Ugly in the Morning'.

Mike Patton almost choking with fury there.

Then of course there's RATM's Zach de la Rocha... "Anger is a gift," indeed!

Rusted Shut - Dead in the Water

Whole album is hideously, wonderfully mangled. Chokes completely on its distortion, vocals literally choking. Top noisey sludge

In my skinhead days I was rather partial to a bit of yer visceral angry young men shouting in the shape of Oi.[nb]music of choice for the discerning herbert, punk and skin about town[/nb]

Your typical leave-me-alone 'Mr Authority' so beloved of most Oi bands but a bit of a banger an all.

Flux Of Pink Indians Tube Disaster

Not Oi but loved this on release and still have the EP.

The affair couldn't last. Within a few months of my Oi flirtation I bought the Mode's Speak and Spell and got into OMD and Kraftwerk.

I know you're looking for some real throat-scratching stuff, and I could go there, but I can feel the livid pain dripping off of every single syllable Buffy Saint-Marie utters here.  The clip also features her talking incredibly elegantly (and presciently) about immigrant and first-nation struggles to a raggedy, raw-boned Pete Seeger. The way the camera gets so close it practically gives her an Eskimo kiss only makes the whole thing more crippling: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x62qpua

Not surprised at all she was put on Nixon's blacklist.  You're not supposed to be that lucid and honest.  It's just...unshowbiz.

That's an amazing performance.

Loved the interview, lyrics and anger. Didn't like her warbly vibrato. Mind you, the screaming I posted above isn't for everyone.

Napalm, anything ever, really, but especially last year's forum-fave Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism. It's a fucking furious record.

Indeed. Best exemplified on the live version on the Bombtrack single which I can't find on Youtube to share, and now it is I who is delivering an Insanely Angry Vocal Performance (to no-one).

Plan B's first album has some real fury on it too, I just can't mind the names of the songs.
