Couldn't Trump just order the pilots of Air Force One to fly round and round in circles for weeks on end until Biden agrees to let him keep the presidency? What could anybody do? Go up and get him?

They could just say Biden's now the president and ignore him until the plane just malfunctioned and fell out of the sky. Then charge him for damaging president Biden's plane if he even survived the landing/crash.

I wonder what proportion of loony cult Trumpers will still follow him in future. He could start his own religion or political party or maybe TV station depending on the numbers. Or maybe his own nation state on some unused island somewhere. If L Ron Hubbard can do it Donald can. The main requirement is a narcissistic personality which he has in spades.

Wheel the Spirit of St Louis out of storage.  Mind you, Joe's gonna have some explaining to do when they find a dead toddler.

It's not in storage -- it's hiding in plane site (see what I did there).

Is this what isolation from reality by two generations of inherited wealth brings you?

Am I naive to think it’s pretty good news if she’s gonna be there as it significantly reduces the chances of Trump agitating his followers to suicide bomb the event or something?

She's not invited. And she has no political career.

I'd want the Whitehouse deep cleaned before I moved in there. Trump's probably been wiping bogies under chairs and that.

I'm picturing something like this in the White House bedroom, but the hand prints a mixture of fake tan, grease, and Big Mac sauce, either side of a portrait of the Trump himself, with huge muscles, riding a horse

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Trump of some kind in the running for the primaries in 3 years time, so no wonder Ivanka is keeping the brand alive.

This is my favourite podcast on Trump gossip for anyone with an hour to spare. This guy called Noel Casler was a talent babysitter on The Apprentice for six years or so and I'll paraphrase one plum exchange.

"So how many times did Trump shit his pants in your presence?"

"Oh three times, at least"

I think Casler is trying to launch a stand up career off the back of this and I can see why as he's a bit of a raconteur and quite witty.

Mitch McConnell is being reported as saying to associates that he’d welcome Trump’s impeachment as he wants him purged from the party.

They're starting to leave the sinking ship....
I still think that by the time the vote arrives that there won't be enough to convict. Him losing the election was a win, second impeachment and conviction would be too good a thing to happen. Impeachment will happen but I don't think the 67 votes will happen.

If Pence becomes President for a week, what will he get up to? Is he more likely to nuke half the world than Trump?

Imagine having two swearing in ceremonies in the same month.

That's probably right but and there's gonna be the handful of Republicans who are as brainwashed as the average Trump supporter, but then hopefully the rest are the ones who realise that supporting Trump is political poison and voting against him is a vote for the future of their own careers more than anything else. There might also be a couple of them who see it as the right thing to do.

Given 2/3rds of Republicans in Congress voted against the electoral college results I'm equally interested in who of the 64 that had the basic decency to accept electoral defeat also have the basic decency to impeach the ringleader of an armed insurrection.

According to one Republican some members decided not to certify the results since they did not want blowback from MAGA/QAnon.

Quote
As we moved to accept Arizona’s electors, a fellow freshman lingered near a voting terminal, voting card in hand.

My colleague told me that efforts to overturn the election were wrong, and that voting to certify was a constitutional duty. But my colleague feared for family members, and the danger the vote would put them in. Profoundly shaken, my colleague voted to overturn.

An angry mob succeeded in threatening at least one member of Congress from performing what that member understood was a constitutional responsibility.

No surprise it's going to be a shitshow. Trump won't resign. Pence won't use the 25th. And impeachment will be tantalising close but the thought of Trump or Trump-annointed presidential run is going to cause headaches for the next four years. Even if Trump is impeached, there are plenty of cunts ready to step into his shoes even without the charisma.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/13/us-carries-out-first-federal-execution-of-a-woman-in-nearly-seven-decades

Oh America, where people can horrifically abuse a woman from childhood with no repercussions and the abused woman herself is murdered by the President and all the other people whose job it is to kill people like her.

This is really upsetting as it sounded like there had been a stay of execution. What's even more upsetting is that she might even be better off dead.

What a fucking disgusting country.
