This is wrong isn't it?

They're supposed to be called 'butter mints'!

No wonder this branch of the multiverse is so fucking shit. There wouldn't be any President Trump in the Butter Mint universe, and Covid was just a harmless sniffle.

I want my money back!!

Captain Z

Nah they've always been called that - because they look like toes, innit.

canadagoose

I legitimately have no clue what I used to call them. Are they a bit like Murray Mints?

This thread has reminded me of the scent of my grandparents' living room when I was five.  Excuse me while I sink into the generous duvet of nostalgia.

Chedney Honks

Ah, I love these.

The zingy pep of mint with all the arterial grease of butter.

How nice it would be if someone Shop'd old muscleman Mandela (and mints) into a 70s living room for you

D'yer remember A-Team corn snacks with Mr T on the packet? Even if you and I both do, that doesn't mean they existed. It's How the Mandela Effect works.

Butter mints are crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Butter mintoes are crunchy at first (but you'd be insane to attempt to chew them) and then go filling-extractingly chewy after a while, but they're the same texture all the way through.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

By a strange coincidence, Butter Mintoes is actually quite a prominent South African politician. Works in the Department for Sweets, or something.

The correct term for these confections is in fact BUTTERED MINTOES.

if you don't believe me, ask your dad!

I think they were referred to in Last Tango in Paris. Sure was a weird place to keep mints.

Yeah I didn't like the entire premise of that film.  I didn't mind the holiday location - all these features tend to adopt an 'away from home' ruse to warrant their cinema ticket price - but they made a mistake in my view shifting it away from Summer Wine to Tango to make it more child-friendly.  And all the Trebor product placement meant none of the viagra jokes landed anymore.  >:(

Think yourself lucky that's what they look like.

What are they cooking mints for

Ovens are for pasties and quiches and things

Also, and I can't believe nobody else has said this, what kind of knob puts their hand in or on an oven?  Use mits!

Pay attention. They're not hand cooked in ovens. They're hand cooked on open fires. How could you hand cook something in an oven? You'd not be able to close the door while your hand was in there.

I've got a vague memory that years ago* there were sweets called Nuttall's Mintoes, but I can't remember if I ever had them or what they were like. I've got loads of similar anecdotes if people are interested.

*(when it was all fields around here and you could leave your doors unlocked).
