I was going to post it.

What is known as 'arabstrapped' - past tense adjective informal.

"to have your proposed musical track/ artist suggested by a fellow poster before you have the opportunity.

eg: Damn! I was going to nominate Billy Dainty's cover version of the Sex Pistols' Bodies but was arabstrapped by daf.

I'm still slightly unnerved by daf and I, when we were all running gaily through the perfumed gardens of 1967, nominating the same song within seconds of each other.

For those of you keeping notes at home, it was The Tales of Flossie Fillett by Turquoise.

I mean, really.

and a few pages later (in 1971) there was another one with Shelagh McDonald.

Who Is She? - I'Monster Released on Dharma in 2003.

The skill I'Monster have already been dealt with back in 1999? Sleaze-a-tronica at its best.

Kristin Hersh - Deep Wilson

https://youtu.be/_MZVTfyVbAc

Taken from her sixth solo album "The Grotto".

Brendan Benson - Metarie

This was on the 2002 album, Lapalco, before being released as a single in 2003. It charted at 92 in the UK. If I had remembered in 2002, I might have chosen "Tiny Spark" instead. The album was made with Jason Falkner and it had a lot of good songs.

One Word Extinguisher- Prefuse 73. Released on Warp in 2003.

Start of my new sounds learning curve in 2003. Still sounds utterly contemporary. Well, to me anyway.

Prefuse 73 AKA Guillermo Scott Herren is a music producer, who has been based in Atlanta, Barcelona and New York.

Super Furry Animals - Slow Life
[Super Furry Animals] {Epic}
(Taken from the album Phantom Power)

Slow Life was conceived in the studio while recording Phantom Power, SFA's 6th album, built from a short electronic piece by Cian Ciaran and an unfinished Gruff Rhys lyric.
Eventually growing into 7 minutes of multiple styles and tempos, the song pretty much became a staple of their live set immediately, often as the opening song.
Gruff performs the song wearing a specially adapted helmet and likes to get his signs out during it.

Mogwai - Hunted By A Freak

https://youtu.be/__IQOzqUUZA

Taken from their fifth album, "Happy Songs For Happy People", it reached number 3 in the Festive Fifty.

The Culture Bunker

Around 2005, a then-bandmate gave me a copy of that Mew album and I found it pretty good - it certainly stood out from a lot of the other 'indie' stuff I was exposed to at the time. Years later, I saw one of the subsequent releases (the one with the stupidly long title) going cheap in Vinyl Exchange - sadly, it was nowhere near as enjoyable.

Hanne Hukkelberg ‎– Cast Anchor

Released in 2003 in Norway on the four-track 'Cast Anchor' EP

QuoteHanne Hukkelberg is a singer-songwriter from Kongsberg, Norway. She started singing and playing instruments at the age of 3. In her youth, she was a vocalist covering genres such as jazz, rock, and free jazz, and was also a member of the influential doom metal band Funeral in high school, in which she contributed vocals on their second album, 'In Fields of Pestilent Grief'.

Hukkelberg graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2003, establishing herself as a vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. It was there she met Kåre Chr. Vestrheim – a tutor who would later become one of Hukkelberg's closest friends and collaborators; also producing her 'Cast Anchor' EP in 2003, and breakthrough debut LP 'Little Things' in 2004.

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Eyes Of Green, Green, Green
[Childs] {Sanctuary Records}
(Taken from the album Sleep/Holiday)

A glorious bit of summery pop by Euros Childs from Sleep/Holiday, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci's final album.
The band split after this album, failing to reach the top 40 in either the singles or albums charts in their career because, y'know, the public are fucking idiots.

Rifle Eyes - cLOUDDEAD. Released on Big Dada in 2003.

Clever clever wonky hip hop. Me like.

cLOUDDEAD was an American experimental hip hop group, consisting of Doseone (Adam Drucker), Why? (Yoni Wolf) and Odd Nosdam (David Madson).Generally Drucker and Wolf provide the group's vocals while Madson produces the music. Occasionally Madson's vocals can be heard, while Drucker and Wolf provide music, especially for the group's second album. Clouddead's sound is notoriously hard to define, and although it is undoubtedly grounded in "traditional" hip-hop, influences as varied as electronica, psychedelic music and indie rock can be heard. Because of this non-traditional take on hip-hop, more conservative elements of the rap community have characterised Clouddead as "smartarse surrealism," with some elements of the community rejecting the notion that the group can be classed as hip hop at all ignoring Sole's request to "just call it hip hop."

What Is The Problem? - Grafiti Vs The Bug.  Released on 679 in 2003.

Mike 'The Streets' Skinner's alter ego. Sort of a reboot of My Girl by Madness via Basement Jaxx and Fat Les.

We've covered Skinner recently so here is some mini background to The Bug instead. Real name: Kevin Richard Martin. He is an electronic music producer from London, UK, influenced by grime, hiphop, ragga, dubstep and dub techno.

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows - Penance and Pain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXkmdBwzaFo

Sopor Aeternus is really Anna-Varney Cantodea, a German transsexual artist who founded this experimental group in 1989. They use a combination of classical and electronic instruments to songs sung in English, German and Latin. Their artwork is murky, obsessed with death, decay and a general gloominess. I suppose they are as goth as goth can be.

This is from their 2003 album, Es reiten die Toten so schnell.
