Phoenix ‎– Everything is Everything

Reached #74 on the UK charts in July 2004

QuoteIn the 1990s, vocalist Thomas Mars, bassist Deck d'Arcy, and guitarist Chris Mazzalai, who were all friends in school, started playing together as a "garage band" based out of Mars's house in the suburbs of Paris. In 1995, Laurent Brancowitz, Mazzalai's older brother, permanently joined the band on guitar. Two years later the band took on the name Phoenix and pressed 500 copies of the single 'Party Time', on their own label, Ghettoblaster. Shortly after, they were signed to the Paris-based Source Records.

Phoenix began releasing singles in 1999, the first of these being "Heatwave". The single "Too Young" was released in May 2000, was the band's first single to chart, reaching No. 97 in France and No. 148 in the UK, and was included on the band's debut album, 'United', released in June 2000.

Shortly after the release of 'United', Phoenix began work on a second album, recording in 2003 and 2004 and releasing the singles "Run Run Run" and "Everything Is Everything" in 2004. The band's second album, 'Alphabetical', was released in March 2004.

Brundle-Fly

Hard Bloke - Geezers Of Nazareth.  Released on Bored in 2004.

Probably, a candidate for the Terrible Band Names thread. Better suited to a fast paced and irreverent Edinburgh Fringe comedy sketch group. 14:30 at the Pleasance Below. Some really good tunes though.

Geezers Of Nazareth AKA Adrian Meehan and Jack Reynolds were a quirky pop duo based in London. That's seemingly all the info on them out there. A few singles, and one album.

Mathew Jonson- Ultraviolet Dream

The B-side to banger Decompression, Canadian born techno-ist Mathew Jonson shows off his more introspective side here. He  apparently played in marching bands a bit in his youth.

Breakage-Bring Back (Remix)

Was using amen breaks just old by this point or was it self-consciously retro?

Kode 9- Babylon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VValwHa3_7Y

Kode 9 is also known as Hyperdub label boss Steve Goodman, responsible for putting out many dubstep tunes, (but not this one, which is from Tempa Allstars vol,2 on Tempa). He is also an academic who has written a book about sonic weapons. The MC on this track, only occasionally audible and  performing a loose interpretation of Prince's Sign O' the Times is Stephen Gordon, aka Daddy Gee, aka The SpaceApe. After Gordon's unfortunate early death in 2014, he was described as having "a ten-ton doomsayer croak" by Pitchfork.

Rilo Kiley - Portions For Foxes

https://youtu.be/qtNV3pOqcjI

One of these songs that seems as though it should've been a massive hit but wasn't.

Rilo Kiley were an indie-pop band from California, fronted by Jenny Lewis, who went on to have a successful solo career.

The unusual phrase 'portions for foxes' is a biblical phrase from Psalms 63:10:

'They shall fall by the sword; they shall be a portion for foxes.'
