What excuses do defenders of the government's actions on COVID give? Here are some I see a lot:

"It's the people's fault, not the government"
"Why is the news all doom and gloom?"
"The media is so rude to ministers"
"Could you have done any better?"
" It's China's fault, not the government's"
"Captain Hindsight"
"There was no manual for COVID"

Tikwid

EOLAN

"It is a time to pull and come together, not to question us."
"Your criticisms of how we have dealt with the Virus is clearly an attack on all the noble nurses and doctors."
"Now is not the time to learn lessons from this."

Jasha

"It's not his fault he's got a lot on his plate what with Covid Brexit AND he's just had a baby"

Oh you'd prefer CORBYN would you?

Funny that it's so beyond the pale that the answer be 'yes'

"Other countries have made mistakes"
"Get behind Team Jab"

frajer

The always reliable, "I think we're all to blame for this mess."

Get fucked.

"We haven't done everything wrong"

Saw a great one on Twitter complaining about Kier Starmer having to isolate three times and asking was he obeying the rules around his household bubble. As if Starmer doesn't meet loads of people during the course of his work. Even people who can work from home might get symptoms several times going to the shops.

"It's an unprecedented situation. Nobody could have seen this coming."

frajer

"This country would be far worse off if we'd locked down sooner"

This one's a puzzler until you realise the person saying it has no brain.

"The left wing media won't stop scoring points against our PM"

Said by people who ignore the Sun, Mail, Express, Star, Sky News etc,

One right winger has started his own site where he claims Netflix is part of the left wing media.

"Brexit delivered, vaccine rollout faster than other countries". Ignoring everything else about the UK's response to the pandemic and the concern over the UK's vaccine rollout.

"Why can't we focus on the present, not look back at the past".

James Cleverly tries to score party political points during a pandemic, like a pint of piss:

"Captain Hindsight" is trending again and I made the mistake of looking at some of the tweets, which allowed me to find two new grifter comments.

"It could have been worse. You can't prove this isn't true"
"You can't compare us to other countries" (which doesn't seem to apply regarding the vaccine rollout"

One of them has five union jacks in his profile name.

Is it worth debating with these people on Twitter? Will it change any minds?

No.

This answer applies to any person, on any subject.

Just accept that disagreement is still a viable position.
