I recently mentioned on here that I enjoyed "Heat" by Bill Buford, which is a great one if you're interested in food and the cooking world.

What are some of the classics of the genre that you rate? I've read my Hunter S. Thompson and Jon Ronson, and it's a type of writing I like, but I haven't really delved into it more deeply.

Anyway, post your recommendations here!

I read 'The Fruit Palace' while I was working as a hospital cleaner a good few years back. I remember little about it apart from a growing sense of tension at the situation that the author gradually gets himself inextricably entwined with. Very entertaining but also horrible. In essence, yer man goes to Columbia to find out about cocaine smuggling, but becomes far, far too involved. with hilarious consequences

Might be time for a re-read. I really enjoyed it at the time.
