Speaking of my own experiences, understanding that in most contexts I might not actually be that good at knowing when I'm being well-argued into a stupid conclusion was immensely useful and immensely relieving. This has stayed with me a lot. I note that I pre-empted any criticism of your abilities, with a clear acknowledgement of my own limitations.

CaB has become a really unfriendly and indeed unpleasant place in some quarters, with a few mean-spirited individuals socially poisoning the forum, killing debate, and ruining the experience for the vast majority of users. Troll city, basically.

This is why I barely bother here anymore, sadly, despite being a top 3 poster back in the day, and I'm not the only one, believe me. It should be possible to have different views in a friendly environment, without being insulted, but this is not the case.

You posted something dumb and people took the time to carefully explain why it was nonsense. Then you had a tantrum about it. You'd obviously made no attempt to verify whether it had any veracity before posting it.

But what I seldom did was hate on people, which is what is sad about modern social media and fora. Hate amplifiers that encourage anti-social behaviour.
