Richard Osman and his boring house of games

Have just fallen backward off my chair, up into a second chair and then back over that one too, at the suggestion that Richard Osman isn't a complete cunt.

I wouldn't say he's a centrist. As with most people labelled centrists, he is on the left but accepts that in this shitty world full of arseholes, you need to be practical and accept a few ugly compromises in order to have any hope whatsoever of making the world a better place.

There's a difference between not wanting a sudden shift to the left, and wanting a sudden shift to the left but accepting that you're not going to get it and would be better off accepting something closer to the middle rather than pushing for something you'll never get and ending up with nothing.

It's a shame it was said by CaB hate figure (rightly) Tony Blair, because the quote about power and principles is a valid and relevant one.

I think the final nail in the centrist coffin was that stealers wheel tweet he did. Centrist are just smarmy "I'm better than these principled idiots" dickheads, and are probably one of the main reasons that there is no substantial progress towards a better future. Again, if that's ones bag then whatever like.

He had a big stiff hard on when Macron got in as I recall, bemoaning the fact the the UK couldn't elect someone as sensible. Gone a bit quiet now of course.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

The idea that centrists are the really astute ones who get things done is shattered by everything that's happened in the last 20 years, as a consequence of their failure to achieve that outcome for people across the globe.

Sure, some people are still wealthy and liberal and 'centrist'. They like foreigners and gays, that's coolz but what they really want is for their own cosy life to carry on, which means as little disruption for them as possible. No Brexit but also No socialism. It is a movement based around the preservation of a status quo they benefit from, not a movement that is at all on the left aside of recognising the minorities are also humans.

The Lurker

It's a decent show depending on the guests that are on. Last weeks with Les Dennis, Melinda Messenger et al was good as it was competitive and they had a good rapport together, the week when Angela Barnes walked away with it was a bit duff. They do get some right thickos on though, don't they? I remember the other contestants being condescending towards Dion Dublin, especially when he got a question right.

There is something about Osman I don't like even though he does appear to be a decent enough fella.

The "Hey Alexander" round can do one though.

Yeah, that round's crap. As is the music intro one where, nine times out of ten, you can just buzz in after every one else has.

JesusAndYourBush

Am I having a false memory or did the trophy they win in the last episode used to be a tiny little plastic thing about 5 inches tall?
I've got a distinct memory of a post-credits sequence with someone squeezing the top of the little plastic trophy between thumb and forefinger and saying "You can tell this is quality!"

I bet they don't get to keep the proper metal trophy they have now.

Old Thrashbarg

I generally find Osman quite entertaining; he's reasonably knowledgeable and witty. Though I also think he's very clearly a cunt. And his ubiquity has not helped.

Any one of his tweets is all the evidence you could ever need to prove he's a cunt.

ProvanFan

Didn't he fuck over a young Lucas and Walliams in some tattle tale twat way?

ProvanFan

(I barely remember what I'm on about, could end up being Donny Osmond fucking over a young Hall and Oates)

Shoulders?-Stomach!

Hasn't there been massive follicle reconstruction surgery at some point too?

JesusAndYourBush

I liked it when the storyline of an episode of Not Going Out involved an appearance on Pointless, with Lee Mack's character calling Osman "a lanky streak of piss".

EDIT: Boring ground I already covered the last time I moaned about this smug dickhead's shit tweet.

timebug

Don't dislike the show itself, just have problems with the smug bellend who presents it.

He did, yeah. I think he got them fired from some show and took the credit for their work. I think.

Horrible man with his vile Easter Island head and wet mouth.

He does have a weirdly wet mouth.

I've never seen house of games due to it having the words 'Richard Osman' in the title.

If you know someone with an Alexa you can play Pointless with a generic woman pretending to present it. Sadly the speech recognition isn't really good enough for a quiz with a wide range of answers, having spent ten minutes shouting "Zinc not sink" at it.

Also, anyone who writes crime novels is secretly a murderer.

Gurke and Hare

Imagine getting so upset about Richard Osman. Keep it up like this and you'll have a stroke before you're 50, stone dead you'll be.

Probably just that it's quite easy to articulate why he's a cunt and takes virtually no effort at all, cheers

holyzombiejesus

Robin's Nest. If you do get chance, try and watch it, a really funny show.

lankyguy95

Some of you need to spend more time hating people you actually know.

Performative railing against centrists is really just the next bit of twitter puffery for yer more vocal do-nothings, innit? Wee frisson of edginess, smidge of self righteousness, but ultimately exactly as useful as retweeting #kony2012 or putting an overlay on your Facebook profile picture.

Anyway I was on Osman's short lived quiz Two Tribes, and met the big man in the flesh. He was a bit put out that I'd shown up woefully hungover, has a terrible handshake and smells quite unusual, but he seemed okay.

The answers are always in childhood.

His Dad left the family home when Osman was 9. His entire persona is probably based on needing approval from his Dad. This might be why he can come across as an insufferably smug TV smarmball - he got addicted to the approval of an audience.

His need to do quizzes probably comes from some sort of need for power, status and control.

"he seemed okay" - you are water... what is wrong with being viscerally opposed to centrism?

He is proto-beige bungalow whisky tumbler hush puppy man. Once he is out of the limelight, that light will become wan.
