Fuck off. A phrase I fucking hate.
You never hear "my good".

Might as well say "My red"

Buelligan

I hate it too.  I don't mind at all if someone uses it taking the piss but otherwise, bad.

Stoneage Dinosaurs

I'm ok with it, it's shorter than "I have made a grievous mistake and I apologise profusely:

Icehaven

My bad, my bad, my really really bad,
and the whole world has to answer right now
just to tell you once again
my bad.

BlodwynPig

I thought this was a thread about your father: I though the title was 'my dad.'

Ah well, my bad.

TrenterPercenter

But wot about free speech and that?

bgmnts

Is there any americanism that has improved the english language?

Bence Fekete

My Dad says 'my bad' now. Possibly the first time he's ever voluntarily apologised for anything since 1976.

wooders1978

Should always be prefaced with "oops"

I don't mind it but agree there are some hitherto unexplored dimensions to the format.

Gonna start aggressively using "...your bad" as a sign-off when disagreeing with someone.

I've seen you regularly use gotten for got, for some reason. Yes, it was archaic English/Scottish but it's an Americanism now.

No need to reply, for I have won.

flotemysost

I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way
My bad, my bad, my bad
Talkin' 'bout my bad

I don't think you've really understood the phrase.

Collins Dictionary cites an early example from the corpus:

I promise you I shall do my utmost to keep my room tidy and check my bad habits generally.
Secombe, Fred - GOODBYE CURATE

Way to go, douchebag algorithm.

Sorry, my big.

Yes.  'Americanism' for one. (Ok, it was coined by a Scot who was living in the US).  Or 'ok', an Americanism which has definitely improved the language.

Buelligan

I'm unsure as to whether frequency of use is a useful yardstick for judging improvement when discussing language.  OK?  Ok, okay...  Precision, interest, nuance, even poetry, KOed there, k?

timebug

Fucking hate it, because to someone who was tortured to use correct english for years, it's just gibberish. My bad what? Being 'bad' used to mean being ill in our parts; He is off school/work today because he is bad/badly. If you broke your leg, it could be referred to as 'my bad leg'. But just 'my bad'...no, it's bollocks!

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

My bad, really really bad

Buelligan

Hate to invoke Godwin and so on but just thinking about Hitler and his bad.

I think the my bad thing was probably taken from a child's conversation, enjoyed, repeated and then carpet bombed across the anglosphere.  It infantilises evil.  Is that a good thing?  Sometimes, maybe?  All the time?  Absolutely not.

Elderly Sumo Prophecy

Was Hitler's bad the worst bad of all time?

Nah he was alright really.

earl_sleek

I like "my bad". I like American English and most Americanisms (it's true some of them are fugly), largely for the sheer amount of unneeded petty annoyance they cause other English people.

'be like ...' is the worst one out there right now. (although confusingly I saw this in the comments to a 2011 youtube video (posted in 2011 too).
