"Polls open as Starmer promises to 'carry the can' for Labour election results"

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/may/05/keir-starmer-labour-braces-for-challenging-elections

Disingenuous use of the phrase "carry the can[nb]"to accept blame or responsibility for something that one did not cause"[/nb]" by the graun in the headline there, as it isn't mentioned in the article.

I hate Keith and all his pals so much.  Just marking off the days, soaking up a few rays, until he's gone.

First thought I had when I read that story. Fuck sake the french. Did it have to be today?!

It's an obvious stunt to get votes. Nothing more.

'Carry the can' as in be the bearer of the receptacle for boiled so-called 'centrist' piss.

Compare and contrast Sturgeon's response, face to face, with a fascist and Kieth's waffly shit when responding to a white replacement theory proponent on Local London Radio.

The absolute boy.

I agree with the respondent who said this made them laugh and cry at the same time: https://twitter.com/SocialistAnyDay/status/1390243264222093313

I'm blocked by this account apparently. Very puzzling. I rarely tweet and most of the people I follow are socialists. What does it say and who is it?

where can I watch Starmer meltdown live on TV tonight - anything but Huw

It's a vid so a description is not going to be helpful... Right click (or long press on mobile) and view in private browsing/incognito.

Ta. Very strange though. As I said I hardly ever tweet, when I do it's rarely on political matters - the last thing I tweeted was to a charity looking after homeless people's dogs saying it's a great organisation, and before that it was anniversary congratulations to someone I know and before that it was a picture of my home telephone (it's a trimphone just like our family's first ever phone in the mid 70s) - my last few retweets have either been of Peter Stefanovic videos, about foxhunting (I'm opposed to it, just in case you were wondering) , or from local disability organisations.

Yet, someone has gone out of their way to block me. I'm quite proud of that

Sebastian Cobb

They might not have gone out of their way to block you specifically. Some people use automatic blocklists, you might have done something to have upset someone, or it could be as petty as a bot working on a process of 'guilt by association' on your follower lists.

The site blocktogether used to provide this functionality (and still does in a mothballed capacity to existing users) but the explanation is interesting: https://blocktogether.org/

I've waited until the polls have closed to say that
@Keir_Starmer
has refused to sign Unite's letter demanding an end to fire & rehire.

It says so much. Disgraceful.

Show some passion. Talk for workers. It's pathetic.

Read that and felt instantly vindicated in my choice to skip voting Labour this time.

do we get an exit poll for hartlepool

I had a look on the graudian website but they seem to have entirely forgotten it is happening? It is also the only result with counting overnight rather than waiting until the morning so likely to be the first one announced. How strange.

Perhaps they just ran out of space.

I think Beth Rigby's done some analysis on it and the tories themselves seem to be claiming it.

free coffees for hartlepool if you just buy an onion or a single button mushroom

Talk of recriminations. I didn't realize labour could set the by-election date for hartlepool, seems like baroness nichols picked the election date to coincide with "super Thursday". All going well then.

The dude didn't even have to resign, did he? I feel like a proper power driven group of cunts would have him stick it out for fucking ages as an independent or some shit, at least until things looked remotely favourable for them.

still have a horrible suspicion they somehow came to the conclusion Paul Doctorman would be great right now while the pandemic is still on

idunnosomename

baroness chapman surely. nichols has never been labour. shes just a rotten leather glove of a person who should shuffle into a fucking grave as soon as possible

Spread for labour seems to be +4 to -35 points, with the average drop being -15 points or so. That's entirely unscientific and based on my scrolling though the results feed.

I have to be up early tomorrow so will stop browsing the results but I look forward to the excuses tomorrow morning. Presumably that dastardly corbyn has hobbled us again!
