Wondering what were/are the most rubbish syndication edits that have been on TV.
I've got two here from Classic Who Wants To Be A Millionaire that are fucking rubbish.

We usually have this one in the evenings when neither can be arsed to get up and go do something else -- the sudden changes in clothing are jarring enough, but the howler came last week.

The chained together episode had a contestant who ran through their session, got their money, off you go, fuckity bye. Then a clothing change jump as they went to the 'fastest finger round' -- no biggie, as we've seen those edits a ton of times...but matey wins fastest finger, goes to sit in the chair...and why is there glittery confetti all over the floor? The previous person didn't make it to a million...and there's clearly been a mashed edit from one day to the next.

Then Mr Attila said, 'That contestant's called Tecwin, did they say?'

Turns out the reason for the confetti was also the reason for the edit -- between the contestant who'd bowed out and this new guy had been the Charles Ingram episode(s). The confetti on the studio floor was from him, and our man Tecwin was the infamous cougher.

Kind of fascinating really -- we wondered why they haven't cut his session, as well, considering he was a part of that.

The Original Airing of the show was also mashed up originally with the 2 shows that Charles Ingram was in.

Gulftastic

The Malcolm In The Middle episode 'Stereo Store' has the Francis 'b' plot consist of Otto accidentally renting the ranch out to be used for making a porn film. When Sky used to show the ep in day time, they cut that part entirely, losing several minutes. I remember the ad break being at least twice as long as normal to cover the loss.

Sebastian Cobb

Not shown uncensored by Auntie until 2006 apparently.

Interesting, thanks for that link!

Other bad edits -- in the US, M*A*S*H* has been shown in syndication as far back as running daily repeats even as new series were being made. So when I was still a little kid in the 70s, you had new episodes running on Monday nights, but older ones showing daily around lunchtime (which I only got to see over school breaks, but my brother loved it, and we'd it together. No VCRs in them days, kids, so syndicated repeats was how you got your fix).

Anyway, I was surprised when, seeing the repeats here in the UK, that the final stingers are left intact; they're the first thing to be edited out in the US to fit in more adverts. However, the one annoying edit/cut I've seen here, quite recently, is the episode where Frank jumps into a tank to show off his 'skills' to Margaret and drives over Potter's Jeep. Potter, in resigned sorrow, takes one look at the wreck
Spoiler alert
pulls out his pistol, and shoots it, as he would a crippled horse.

I remember both my mother and brother laughing themselves silly at this punchline, and it really is funny given the character and the nuttiness of the situation. Sony channel repeats edit it out though.

Side note: I think it is fabulous that M*A*S*H* ran over here in Britain with no laugh track; what a heck of a difference that makes! One reason even as a kid I didn't like comedy was the laugh track, especially as you heard the same set of giggles over and over again, if you grew up in the late 60s and early 70s. Mr Attila had only known the show without it, but again, Sony channel repeats of the earlier series have the laugh track included.

Magnum Valentino

Angel on Channel 4 (first run, sorry, not syndicated at that stage) was chopped to fucking pieces for its 6pm run (one of the first season episodes got an 18 from the BBFC! Angel!) and wouldn't fill its hour slot with ads. They started running it twice on Fridays (same as TFI Friday) and showed the uncut episodes later in the evening.

The insane asylum episode of Futurama is also massively censored when aired by channel 4.

And the infamous no-violence cut of Predator that ITV used to show even after the watershed.

I remember watching one BBC2 episode where the laugh track had been left on and it was amazingly jarring.

I read somewhere once that laugh track-free versions don't exist for the first episode (or it might have been first few, first 3 maybe, something like that, I can't remember).  So when it's screened here without the laugh track they have no choice but to use the laugh track versions for those episodes, and it always confuses a few people who never saw that version before.

And not sure it was a syndication edit, might have been the channels own editing, but seeing Alien mentioned in another thread has made me remember that in the late 90's/early 2000's maybe, I saw Alien was going to be on.  Start time must have been around 10pm, definitely after the watershed.  When it got to the scene where it bursts out of the guys stomach, a small patch of red appears on his t-shirt then it cut to a 1-second shot of the baby alien running down the hallway.  For some reason they'd shown a "kindergarten edit" after the watershed, presumably by mistake.

The broadcast history of The Simpsons on Channel 4 is full of bizarre edit choices, not just for censorship as well but often just pure clumsiness.

As I'm sure we all know, Season 7's 138th Episode Spectacular ends with the "Full frontal-nudity!" credits sequence. On one particular broadcast, C4 played out these credits in full...followed immediately by the credits again, as for some reason they were using a generic set of credits for every episode and apparently no-one had bothered to check if the episode had credits attached already.

Channel 4 are absolute wank for this. I tried to do a rewatch of Community a year or two ago when it wasn't on Netflix but was on 4OD, but I had to give up three episodes in due to inexplicable cuts.

buttgammon

Prime have a mishmash of versions of Broad City, which means it's a minefield on whether you're going to get Illana walking around with a massive strap-on or "oh my God" being bleeped, the latter presumably being the syndicated version.
