This gorgeous song by The Orioles from 1948 is like a bridge from the 40s (Ink Spots) to the 50s (Platters, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers). What I particularly admire about it is that it's deeply moving yet restrained. It doesn't use any vocal tricks:
