I can't say for certain of course but given his offences, the high profile and the fact he's an ex copper he'll almost definitely be on a vulnerable prisoner wing (typically sex offenders and any others at high risk of attack from the general prison population) or whatever arrangement the jail he's in has for managing them. For someone as high profile as that it might be that he's not able to mix with the other prisoners at all at first. We've had a few that were in the news quite a lot when they first came in and they had to stay on the reception and healthcare wings as it's easier to keep them away from everyone else there.

Been thinking of retiring to a special wing in prison. How comfy is it on a scale of 1 to 10?

Ha of course the solution is 'more police'.

Roger and Maude in the bungalow across the way will like that. Makes them feel safe in their perma-autumnal musk hovel.

Well if you wait until you're about 60ish and you're lucky you could get onto a wing specifically for older blokes, which are like a cross between care homes and hospital wards, only even smellier. The one at my work even has a surprisingly nice garden which the old gents are allowed to sit in for a bit when the weather's ok. Comfort wise as long as you don't mind sharing an oveheated cell with a perverted retired teacher for 20 odd hours a day then I'd say it's about an 8.

Thought this was interesting; has some really good points in it too imo; there are also some things that I think could be better or explored more but it's a panel of men convened for the Guardian.  It is an attempt to bring male voices in at least, the beginnings of a dialogue (though annoyingly the chap who at least touches on male mental health briefly keeps talking in bible metaphors)

Taking two weeks to find the bodies in a house. They must have been really well hidden

Do you think any viable solution to all this nonsense will be put into action or just more thoughts and prayers type bollocks. Apologies for cynicism but, we have just had 130k die from covid and many many people, inside and outside of politics, we're quite prepared to let 'the underlying conditions' die just so they could go on holiday to the sun. So how is the sex murder of a few innocent women going to affect that level of callousness? Also, just been speaking to my neighbour and she somehow was under the impression that the recent events on Clapham Common and the anti male rhetoric around said event would benefit her in that she would not be paying so much out in her divorce settlement. I could have read too much in to this but, how fucking selfish and lacking in empathy can you get.

I'm sure you can find individual people with all sorts of repugnant takes on even the most straightforward set of circumstances.  It may be wise not to let them set the agenda.

On the general callousness front, IMO, all any of us can do is not be callous.  IME, people are often shittiest when they can kid themselves everyone else is.  Don't let them have that.

If she was being remotely serious that's some of the most wishful thinking and mental gymnastics I've ever heard. She may be disappointed. Be hilarious to hear anyone going "Oh come on your honour, we all hate men now, halve the settlement!" though.

Making a murder all about herself? Definitely.

To be fair,  it's a very bitter divorce so her mind is understandably all over the place at the moment. The marriage was a bad fit, that's it.  Still can't get overcome the feeling that these little off guarded moments reveal a lot about someone's character though but, that's another thing. Do apologise for my fatalism, maybe it's the old Marxist in me and used to disappointment etc,  just can't help thinking that the much talked of and actually needed cultural shift in men's behavioural patterns won't move much past the sloganeering stage. We are all such selfish cunts now.

Wayne Couzens has just pleaded guilty to the kidnap and rape of Sarah Everard:

He has also "admitted responsibility for her death" but it looks like he wasn't actually charged with murder.

He was charged with murder.

Yes, now confirmed. Looks like he wasn't asked to enter a plea for a charge of murder at today's hearing, but may be charged with murder at a later hearing, pending medical reports.

Wasn't he done for flashing in a chip shop or something shortly before he did this?
