Just ditch it. You want wank-fodder? Whatever your tastes, there's plenty of it elsewhere.

You want comedy discussion and news chat? There’s plenty of that elsewhere.

CaB’s the best place for comedy chat bar none. You’d probably get quite the reputation on PornHub if you started using it as a place to solicit opinions on obscure comedy.

I enjoyed the cumshot in this clip immensely, but what does everyone think of Paddy Considine’s performance in My Wrongs 8245-8249 & 117?

As opposed to 'Here's my useless personal opinion on a thread I never read'.

I'm not sure the occasional discussion about what attraction means can be justified by the mire of a hundred pages of casual male gaze surrounding it, especially since the former could absolutely exist independently without the latter. And I say that as someone who's certainly guilty of posting smut in there myself in the past.

Might be worth a try just to see where it goes tbh.

I did hear something about a university lecturer having to resort to showing the class a non-pornographic film from there that happened to have a small amoint of nudity in it, because things like youtube automatically removed it. But I still think that could be seen as inaproppriate what with other recommended videos etc. Also when I was looking for the Polish comedy Sexmission (two men get put into stasis 'for science' and when they wake up much later than usual some uprising that wiped all the men out happened and now women were making more women test tube style) using google's video sites threw up some grot sites too. I ended up just torrenting it though.

C'mon man, don't do that. We can vote too. We can choose to explain our voting choice.

If the majority want to keep it, or if Barry thinks it's worth keeping as a containment receptacle for all the wank fodder, it'll stay.

How many women actually do have a problem with it?

I'm a bit annoyed at men being offended on my behalf over this.

I'm not a fan. It suggests a ladsy-ness to the place that I'm wary of. But I'm aware that this forum is mostly men which is why I just ignore it instead of constantly harping about it because that would get me nowhere.

Maybe the problem is people posting smut in it.

Maybe the solution is admitting you posted smut in it, learning from your mistake and moving on instead of continuing to chuck wood on a flaming heap of shit just because it keeps your hands warm.

I'm sorry, I'm partly to blame for this. I don't want to come across as self-righteous but I hope you understand it's because I think we (as in men) need to accept more responsibility and accountability for, as a starting point in this example, a lot of what has been posted in that thread.

In fairness it's actually a boring thread in itself..
"Here's a picture of someone vaguely well known that I find attractive".
"Yeah they're alright looking"
"They're all something something by the time..."

I don't find it boring at all. In particular I find All surrogate's posts very very interesting.

Maybe just avoid it like I avoid the cricket threads?

What is the purpose of the thread anyway? List thread isn't it? A list so diverse that it becomes pointless, even if it were 100% kosher.

*Butchers put it more succinctly.

My main concern is that someone else might feel the same way about that thread as I feel about Page Three (which I talked about the first page of last year's thread). Another female poster on that thread mentioned that they hardly ever contribute to CaB because they feel like this place is a boy's club where women are inevitably going to be judged for their looks. That's really sad, and for a place which otherwise seems for the most part fairly progressive, not good enough.

I only rarely look at the PHWOAARR thread myself and I don't personally have a problem with its existence/with people talking about who they fancy (and I know it's not just cishet blokes that post in there), it's sort of interesting in a weird way to know what people find attractive and some of the chat in there is quite entertaining - but if it's making anyone feel excluded or feel like shit, then that bears scrutiny.

The stuff that's bothered me in that thread (from what I've seen) is

- The weird coy snobbery about fancying porn stars vs. fancying women with more "acceptable" jobs (especially if they're in politics/science etc.) - to me, that plays into dangerously SWERF-y/Madonna-Whore territory

- The odd comment about how someone's looks have "gone downhill" - yes, people are less likely to fancy women as we get older. Cheers for the reminder, I'd actually forgotten about that for almost a whole thirty seconds before you brought it up again.

I can't believe you avoid the the cricket threads. Up there with the snooker threads, easy. It probably helps if you like cricket or being as hateful as possible, but some of the best laughs I've had on here in the last couple of years have been with the cricket gang.

The rest of the internet can have a very narrow view of what constitutes beauty. The Phwooar thread has been at its best when it's stepped outside that. I'm not even joking when I say I find it somewhat reassuring when Blue Jam posts pictures of baldies, even if I do exaggerate it for effect.

I like the thread because I genuinely like seeing who other people fancy. I think it's interesting and weirdly cosy, a bit like people sharing photos of their pets or something. OK that's a really creepy analogy, but hopefully you see what I mean.

People keep saying "you can find smut elsewhere" and obviously that's true, but I don't really think that's the appeal of the thread, at least not for me. I suppose there are posts I appreciate more than others, let me put it that way.

It’s a tough one. I must admit it gives me a lot of quiet pleasure seeng pictures of beautiful women I’ve never seen before. I would be sad to see it go. But if it’s genuinely upsetting people then maybe it should be binned.

I avoid it.  Pretty sure I've mentioned that before.  Today, however, I did read the first three pages just to make sure it was as shite as I thought.  And it wasn't all

In fairness it's actually a boring thread in itself..
"Here's a picture of someone vaguely well known that I find attractive".
"Yeah they're alright looking"
"They're all something something by the time..."

Next.

Not at all, some of it was a great deal less anodyne.  Deeply misogynistic is probably the phrase.

But the reason anyone's talking about it going is not because it's nasty.  It's because shite like that, normalising the objectification of other human beings like that, contributes to creating an atmosphere where abusing other human beings is less problematic.  Inuring people to the idea that it's fine to dehumanise others is the first step, for some, towards far worse behaviour.  And today, we're thinking about that.  How each of us can contribute to making society better for all of us.

I'm extremely grateful to all men stepping up to support women today and every day.

Have posted some Samuel Becketts some WG Sebalds and some David Lynches in that thread.

I think in the thread about it being a bit rum I made the point that I seemed to arrive in a small influx of people when the Glin threads shined a bit of a light on Cab being a good community which appeared to be largely extremely progressive and made myself and presumably other trans-women feel a level of respect we have come to not exactly expect everywhere.

Truly I'm very happy to come here but I do generally see phwaoooaoahahhoahh as a bit of an unironically lads lads lads legend gary type corner and despite the context of H.S Art it would definitely make me embarrassed to recommend Cab if someone were to see an essentially Page 3 thread and have that sour their impression of a great bunch of lads. My partner would certainly feel put off. A point was made that H.S Art is somewhat hidden away, but that's not entirely true if you pay attention to recent posts as I do.

I don't have a problem with people sharing pictures of the famous people they fancy, but some of the comments are pretty repulsive. I mean, as far as I can see it usually doesn't go unremarked when someone does say something creepy or judgemental, but still, it's probably my least favourite part of CaB because of it.
