I watched a little bit of his video and it's astounding to hear him just jabbering on endlessly about the hellish future where fetishistic males will have freedom to molest women and children in perpetuity unless we destroy queer theory, which is all about being a paedophile and lowering the age of consent to zero.

There was a bit where I felt he'd become entirely indistinguishable from a pizzagater, and that may have been it.  Or it may have been the completely disengenous bullshit about grooming, and his faux surprise that anyone would think he may have ever used it in connection to trans people wanting to diddle kids...

Perhaps it was when he said dead naming shouldn't be a taboo, because trans people use the identity change to hide from their crimes - note that he had to hold himself back from specifically mentioning someone here who has taken legal action against him a couple of times.

Having not paid any attention to this for the past few months, I'm just staggered again at how unswervingly horrible and disgraceful it all is. Thing is, I think a relentless and shameless self publicist like Jesse Thorn will gladly have Linehan on to debate the issue.

This is all just Glinner's narcissism showing again; he's convinced that people are terrified to debate him because his arguments are so strong. Even professional transphobes and real journalists don't want much to do with him, but it's more because he's a hate-fuelled extremist than because of the power of his rhetoric.

You can see how his self-worth would be tied up in being funny and (given the nature of the venue and audience) being clever, though, can't you?

It's why he was always so thin-skinned about criticism before (to the point of hating a child because she wasn't suitably impressed in that little behind-the-scenes Ted thing) and why he had a massive fucking meltdown about being very obviously wrong with that IT Crowd episode. The criticism totally caught him off guard, and for a second (possibly for the first time in his life) he was actually forced to confront his own fallibility.

A Channel 4 documentary celebrating the 15th anniversary of Father Ted's launch. At one point, Linehan and Mathews visit the house that was used for the exterior shots of Ted's gaff. They're chatting away to the family who live there, it's all very congenial, then a young girl - she was probably about six - says she's never seen Father Ted. Linehan visibly bristles at this, and says something sarcastic like, "You should watch it, it's good."

I'm going from memory, but that's the basic gist. Even at the time I thought it made Linehan look like a prick; it was such a weird thin-skinned reaction to an innocuous comment from a child. She wasn't being rude, she just said what was in her head in the way children do.

And even if she was being cheeky - I may have misremembered; did she perhaps say that she wasn't keen on it? - why the fuck would Linehan care about what a child thinks of his much-loved hit sitcom?

I've still not seen that clip, and always figured he was kind of joking, right? But I do remember it causing a considerable amount of discussion at the time, and everyone seemed to think it was more evidence of his inability to take any kind of criticism.

(Which seems more likely now that he's torched his whole life and career over one episode of the IT Crowd. Sadly there's no cure for narcissism, just ways of dealing with it through therapy - which usually backfire.)

It really isn't bad at all. The girl (who is a bit fucking overconfident and annoying in the way kids around that age tend to be) makes the remark and Glinner laughs along. The hyperbolic reaction outside about "plotting revenge" is clearly meant to be a joke.

Tbh, as someone who has always been a bit crap at interacting with kids, I find Glinner's response entirely relatable. It's actually mad seeing how fucking normal Glinner once was - makes his precipitous decline seem even more insane.
