nice to see this look at the myth of the TERF "Battle of the Bogs" which are graham has basically destroyed his entire life over. you know, actual legislation and the reasoning for it. not just inventing a contrived situation where Eddie Izzard tries to enter the ladies' toilets after graham's daughter does, graham heroically stands in eddie's way and everybody claps.

It really is amazing when you take a step back and think about the 'are hard won sex based rights' for a moment. Any amount of thinking, any cursory research yields nothing in feminist/women's suffrage history in relation to the right to have your own bathroom?

The most BASIC level of research. Not to be an edgelord but why are people so fucking thick. Oh wait they just have agendas and are disingenuous fucking swine i hope they all get scurvy and die

It does seem kind of crazy for TERFs to imply that "we want our own bathrooms!" was something that women had to fight for. It's just sloppy sloganeering.

Then again, it seems equally crazy to me to imply that the sexed segregation of toilets is analogous to the racial segregation of e.g. "black" and "white" drinking fountains, as this "historian of tattooing" does with a straight face.

There's an episode of 99 Percent Invisible on public restroom design, and it leads with that notion of women being excluded from public spaces. It's quite interesting generally, even apart from the trans issues.

George Oscar Bluth II

Funny that these people go on and on about public toilets without ever acknowledging that the austerity era has led to councils across the UK shutting theirs: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45009337

What this means, of course, is that people with bladder/urinary conditions of all ages and genders are increasingly limited in where they can go and how long for. Are these people arsed about it? Of course not!

GoblinAhFuckScary

One thing about lockdown is that since we all do much of our socialising in parks, the bushes have become the great egalitarian bathroom equaliser. Been rather nice not having to feel like each piss is a gamble for an assaulting, or at the very least seeing transphobic terror-campaign slogans scrawled in excrement in biro.

Adopt the bush model now.

Amelia Earhart didn't die walking in front of that horse so she could lose her hard fought sex based rights.

Saw a great set of tweets from Openly (an LGBTQ+ newsfeed) about trans throughout the world:
QuoteTwo-spirit (North America)

Identifying with masculinity and femininity, indigenous North American two-spirit people are often said to contain both male and female 'spirits'.

They're often revered in their communities, seen as a channel between the physical and spiritual

Fa'afafine (Samoa)

Identifying as a separate gender, fa'afafines' roles in society move fluidly between the traditional male and female.

While they're assigned male at birth, Samoa also recognises fa'afatama – an equally fluid gender for those assigned female at birth

Hijras (South Asia)

The centuries-old third gender, associated with sacred powers, usually refers to those assigned male at birth but don't identify as such.

In 2014, India legally recognised hijras as a third gender after they were criminalised by the British in 1871

Sworn Virgins (Albania)

In this dying practice, women take on the social identity of a man for life, while taking a vow of chastity.

By taking on this identity, they're elevated to the status of a man, entitled to the rights and privileges of the patriarchy

Metis (Nepal)

Officially recognised as a third gender in Nepal in 2007, metis have a long history in the Himalayan region. Assigned male at birth, they assume a traditional feminine appearance.

Nepal set a global precedent with a third gender category on official documents.

Bugis (Indonesia)

The ethnic group has for centuries seen gender as a spectrum, with three additional genders in addition to male and female.

Bugis genders include 'calabai' (feminine men), 'calalai' (masculine women) and intersex 'bissu' priests

Brotherboys and sistergirls (Indigenous Australians)

Used by Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders, brotherboys describes people with a gender experience inconsistent with their assigned sex, with a male spirit and male roles in the community – sistergirls are the opposite

Toms (Thailand)

One of the dozen or more common gender identities in Thailand, 'toms' are women who adopt masculine mannerisms and style, while using male speech terms.

Toms are often attracted to 'dees' – women who follow traditional Thai gender norms

Especially interesting to see Britain come along with all our prim and proper culture (read:transphobia) and criminalise hijras. Long before all those hard fought sex based rights, eh Glinny-poo?

I can just see Glinner go through all that and say "okay groomer". Well actually I can't because he is banned from Twitter for being a transphobe lol.

That's really quite fascinating. Makes you think how British (or global) society would have differed if we'd always had these separate identity categories.

Imagine, four official genders! That'd have shaken things up a bit eh.

This is verbatim what his latest journalism says. I have not edited one word.

Quote from: the bloke he written count arthur strongMen, want to turn a measly £5 into a whopping £30,000? Just follow these simple steps!

1. Spend a fiver to change your 'gender' in the UK. Remember, to receive your medical diagnosis, you must prove you have been 'living as a woman' (whatever that means) for two years.
2. Write a book.
3. Enter a competition specifically set up to counterbalance the disparity in women winning major literary prizes. Don't worry, by simply renaming women 'cis women', and men 'trans women', the enablers will have your back!
5. How many women were pushed off the shortlist in this manner? Only one, so who cares? There are plenty more women who will cheer you on, as proved by the gushing replies to the above tweet. Ok, so it's not a guarantee you'll win the £30,000 but a one-in-sixteen chance is better than no chance at all, especially when you're in the running for stuff like this!

Yes, he completely skips a step. And yes he doesn't actually tell you to do anything for step five. Basically his guide is:
1. Change Gender
2. Write Book
3. Enter Competition
4. ???
5. Profit

He is the fucking underpants gnome of transphobia.

buttgammon

Some oddballs have gone even further than Glinner and written a letter about the book, which was very impressive because half of the signatories are dead writers.

And of course they gave George Eliot her birth name rather than the name she chose to write her books under.

I'm not sure what's the bigger sign that he fury-rushed this piece out, missing out step 4 or the fact that he forgot to pretend that only a gaggle of snivelling handmaids are supportive of trans inclusivity.

he fucking says that like there aren't a million bullshit hoops trans folk have to jump through to prove they're 'living as their preferred gender'

to make things worse, we've had gender recognition in Ireland for six years now and it's not as simple as "I'm a woman now because I say so". You have to give all your documentation to the government and sign another document that has serious legal ramifications. This fuck for brains thinks you send in £5 and get a CERTIFIED WOMAN card.

Jollity

Well, they all imagine a scenario in which tiny children are immediately and without any question put on dangerous cocktails of poisonous drugs that nobody has ever taken before if they're caught looking at the wrong toys. People who've actually been through the system talk about spending literal years waiting for any kind of treatment at all, but what do they know about anything? Real feminists know that gender non-conforming children are all operated on immediately before they've even learned what lesbianism is, and how the most important thing in the world is to stop these villains from breaking into our schools, kidnapping our children and stealing their reproductive systems.

(obviously, these people can't give any concrete examples of that happening, but they definitely once spoke to a real lesbian who said that she met someone who was forcibly transed as a child, so it is definitely a very real thing that really happens)
