Spoilers for winner:

Spoiler alert
Probably the poorest and most predictable season overall. Won by a boring man and very average contestant, who managed a solitary big kill early in the run. I felt for Biko who clearly needs the money, but he (and Theresa) had no plan B. It did look to be taking a turn with Colter,'s deep-water gill net, but they kept his poor condition well hidden (as did his beard). One thing that'll come from this season is Colter and his tarp boat. It's the first time anyone has built a boat properly capable of fishing deep water, and I feel we will see more of that next season

Is it just the last few seasons that they were allowed a significant amount of wire/cordage?

Why is the internet not abuzz about Theresa's brows? Are tweezers in the first aid kit? Theresa was

dragged off for medical reasons

still with amazing eyebrows.

N.B. I am not even one of those eyebrow perverts (yet)

3.5# of 14 ga. wire is 350 feet. Probably double or more if 20ga.
Wonder if in early seasons nobody realized the value of wire in shelters? I don't remember anyone using wire in early ones.

Hope they go somewhere else for next one.

Just finished Season 5. Yeah, not sure how I feel about Sam winning. On the one hand, he's clearly a nice, wholesome guy; on the other, his skills aren't as sharp as the others and he survived on body fat rather than actually catching food. I thought Britt probably deserved to win a bit more. It was nice to see how Larry had grown as a person, far less whiny and more stoic. Dave also seemed more relaxed and mature this time round.

I loved the landscape here. Those autumn colours were beautiful, as was the river and hills. There was enough forest for firewood and hunting but not much that it was oppressive, as in Vancouver. Really beautiful location.

Onto season 6!

Spoiler alert
This latest season proves the 'body fat is mostly enough to get very far' hypothesis. Biko managed to find very little food the entire time, but he was so fat he was fine for quite a long time.

Alone S9 will be Labrador on E coast of Canada according to reddit who stalks me with email notifications about every word I have ever entered on my phone.

I still haven't finished Season 8, not sure I will. With a couple of episodes left to go, the winner seems obvious and it's just a case of circling the drain until that happens. It's a shame, as it had been getting better and better as it went on. I think 6 and 7 might be the best seasons overall, although I really enjoy the scrappiness of the first season when they really didn't know how it would work. Also Alan is a gem.

Just finished season 6. Yeah, I found the editing weird, how it made it seem like Jordan had less food than he did, when he was pulling giant fish out of the frozen water and had hundreds of pounds of moose left. He looked totally chilled when they got him. Comfortable, cheery, well-fed. Surely, the most successful contestant to date? Even when he was talking about his hardships you could tell he wasn't really struggling. I guess he played it up a bit as that was what's required. He could have lasted a year out there. Mind you, he lived with those traditional hunter people in Siberia so he had a huge advantage over the others.

Good season, just behind Mongolia and Patagonia for me. Onto 7!
