Graphics Card Advice
« on: March 25, 2021, 10:33:24 AM »
I've just bought a Dell Optiplex 7010, mainly for music and art creation but there is one game I would like to play on it with my xbox 360 usb wheel/pedals[1] and that's euro truck simulator 2.

Now I know I need a graphics card but will this one be ok.

or do I need something strongerer? I don't want to pay too much as it's basically for one game. What's the difference between DDR3 and DDR5, speed?

Oh and are Kingston solid state drives any good. I need to replace a failing HDD in my sister's laptop and these seem a good deal.

Cheers in advance.

The whole GPU market is utterly insane right now, wouldn't surprise me if basically anything more advanced than the one you linked is gonna cost hundreds atm

Have you given ETS2 a go on it? I'd imagine that even the built-in Radeon HD 7570 or whatever is probably a bit too shit, but it's worth a go.

I think the GeForce GT710 is also probably a bit too shit though if the HD 7570 is.

I think so - it's just the same as an Xbox 360 controller, I'd guess.

ETS2's "recommend" graphics card reference is a GTX760 according to them.

The GT 710 isn't really in that ball park, unfortunately:

You might be able to get a second-hand nVidia GTX 760 or an AMD HD 7870 or AMD R9 270 for a bit less than £100, via eBay.

(I've got an HD 7850 that's probably fucked, which I'll see if I can make slightly less fucked and get back to you. It might be fine in ETS2.)

Thanks for the advice Zetetic. I'm absolutely clueless about this stuff.

Me too, to be clear. Comparison sites like the one I linked are a godsend given the incomprehensibility of manufacturers' naming schemes.
