Randomly came across a load of tracks today by older folk who are surprisingly shit hot with the bars! The flows they have are brilliant too. At first I thought it was a bit of a pisstake but the skills are there.

I've been fairly bored with UK rap in recent years, Grime especially but been bumping this stuff a fair bit today. Nice to have something a little bit different.

I've been listening to loads of this the past few weeks. They released this which is almost at 5m views now.

Mr Trumpet

Love Pete and Bas. Pete has that slightly menacing diamond geezer charisma, and despite Bas sounding like Bernard Bresslaw his flow is incredible.

Uncle TechTip

Yeah, that's not their real voices is it? It seems like a pisstake of epic scale.

Mr Trumpet

It's obviously ghostwritten, nobody's startled by that revelation. It is them delivering the vocals though

Ghostwritten.

Like countless other rappers.

I was really impressed with his flow. Wasn't expecting it, especially the way he goes in on The Old Estate.

Also gave Patrick Karneigh Junior one of the rappers from the Window Frame Cypher a listen. Wish he would drop the auto-tune though.

They have a new(I think) mixtape out. Quick Little Mixtape. Track called Numbers is another group effort and has an Asian guy on it as well who I don't think has appeared before.

Really big fan of Pete and Bas, regardless of how it's created I think it's really high quality and levels above a lot of their (much) younger peers.

I was thinking about the voice thing and have suspicions about whether it's actually them, check out 3min23 in the video you linked, it's supposedly proof of Bas recording a vocal take but it looks a bit off. If you look at live footage of them their mics are very low in the mix and the actual voices you hear sound really different to the recordings, so either it's not their voices or they're just heavily processed.

Also check 'Numbers' from their new mixtape which features the whole crew from the Window Frame Cypher:

The guy at 1min52 sounds like it could be the same guy who does Pete's voice but I could be talking bollocks.

Mr Trumpet

I think you could apply that level of scrutiny to footage of any rapper and come to the same conclusions tbh

I dunno, a bunch of the footage of them recording vocals is shot behind their head too and there's obviously someone behind it (beyond the ghostwriting) with a vision for all of this, so wouldn't be surprising for the voices to be put on too.

The ghostwriting means they haven't register any of their songs on PRS and so don't receive royalties for radio etc. which must be a fucker...

Malcy

Fairly certain it's their voices. They do small venues for the live gigs and I think it would be obvious quickly if they were miming.

BeardFaceMan

Chap with the glasses looks the part and looks like he could be doing the vocals, the other bloke looks well out of place, his dancing looks like hes doing a parody and his miming is awful so it wouldn't suprise me at all if that wasnt his voice.
