Beats n Breaks

Have never seen (this obvious) thread on here.

A place to drop some funky breaks and some heavy beats - and recommend some long form examples (Dusty Fingers compilations ahoy!)

Spaghetti Head - no idea who these are (yes, the names are there but just seem like music business outsiders), seems to have only produced two 7" singles, but Funky Axe is my recommendation to kick things off

Any excuse to post Mark N on the turntables (playing 7-inch funk/soul/breaks instead of thunderous gabba)

Bloody hell, that's good. And I've done many household things to the sound of a Dusty Fingers.

These ones

"Soul thing" by Paul Raven aka Gary Glitter. It is a heavy groove but can't play it anymore.

Really? It's great. Play it for Mike Leander's memory.

King of digging DJ Muro is always good. Doug Carn "Higher ground" what a record.

It's just that he sings "pretty little soul thing".
"Filigree funk" and "Plumb tuckered out" my faves on that record although the Spanky Wilson version of SOYL was the banger in clubs.

I used to dig a lot for samples to sod around with on an MPC. A few classics that spring to mind

David Axelrod - Holy Thursday. Just love how the bass and drum groove slinks in

Grover Washington Jr - Knucklehead

and from the same album... the 'How Many MC's?' break

Black Disco - Night Express

John Schroeder Orchestra - Get Out Of My Life Woman

Get some lovely clean drums at the end of this

Lee Michaels - (Don't Want No Woman)

Perhaps not appropriate for the thread, but I like the snap of the drums

Motorhead - Louie Louie

Always loved this tune since I first heard it on this compilation
https://www.discogs.com/Various-Sampled-Volume-4/release/663142

I never bought any of the other volumes, the earlier ones seemed a bit meh but are probably great.
